114th Congress

The 114th Congress is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the federal government. It will meet in Washington, D.C. from January 3, 2015 to January 3, 2017, during the final two years of Obama's presidency and with Republicans in control of both the Senate and House.

Earlier this month, radical Islamic terrorists carried out a failed attack on Texas soil in Garland. The Texas attack comes at a time when the Middle East continues to unravel and ISIS remains on the march.
I recently helped pass a two year extension of the Secure Rural Schools funding program in Congress, assuring that critical financial support continues for East Texas counties with federal forest lands.
This week in Washington, the House Judiciary Committee voted to end bulk data collection on Americans under section 215 of the Patriot Act.
This week the House passed the first joint budget with the Senate since 2001. For far too long Senate Democrats have hindered our ability to put forth common sense solutions to lower our nation’s debt, balance the budget,...
Today, there is no greater threat to U.S. national security than the prospect of a nuclear Iran. Led by theocratic zealots who have pledged to "annihilate Israel" and who regularly lead chants of "Death to America," an Iran...

In remarks on the Senate floor yesterday, I thanked victim advocacy groups and his Senate colleagues for working together to end the impasse over the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.
This Wednesday was Tax Day. Yet another reminder of how year after year, Americans see more and more of their money go to the Federal Government. This week, Congress passed important legislation to lessen the burden on...
Today is tax day, a day that many Americans have come to fear and loathe. As the current administration has drastically increased spending, many on the left have demanded more and more taxes to pay for this excessive...
The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority - if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment - then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal...
On Thursday, I voted to ensure that our veterans receive the benefits and care they have earned. I supported H.R.
I released the following statement after voting this past week in favor of H.R. 2029, the FY2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs funding bill:
As House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman, I hosted Apollo astronaut and Kerrville resident Gene Cernan today for a screening of The Last Man on the Moon, a documentary on Cernan’s life.
Last week, the I-69 Alliance made a trip to Washington D.C. As the Chair of the I-69 Caucus, the goal of our bipartisan group is to educate Congress about the important role that I-69 has moving people and as a freight...
Last week the House passed two bills to combat the growing threat of cyber attacks. Cyber threats can compromise everything from personal privacy to intellectual property to our national security, and the problem is only...

Last week was Tax Week. We all had to file our taxes (or extensions), and in Congress, the House passed several bills improving our Tax system and repealing the estate tax.
The Obama administration seems to have forgotten NASA’s priorities – and the main one is space exploration.
Today, I announced plans to offer an amendment to H.R. 2, House-passed legislation addressing the so-called “doc fix.” This amendment would fully pay for the legislation by repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate.
