Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz Helps Secure $500,000 Grant for McAllen Transit-Oriented Development

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz announced the successful securing of a $500,000 grant for the Metro McAllen North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Master Plan. The grant, awarded through the Federal Transit Administration's FY23 Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning, will be instrumental in fostering sustainable growth and enhancing connectivity within the McAllen community.

The grant, awarded to the City of McAllen, will facilitate the planning of TOD initiatives around two key transit stations linked by four local bus routes, including a proposed BRT corridor. The project’s primary focus will be to bolster housing opportunities and improve walkability in the vicinity of the Central Station in downtown McAllen, the city's primary transit hub. Additionally, the plan will explore avenues for mixed-use development and establish multimodal connections to the newly constructed North Transfer Station.
