Sessions Supports First Step in Harvey Relief

I released the following statement after supporting a measure to provide $7.85 billion in relief funding for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey:

Last week Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc in Southern Texas and Louisiana causing an unimaginable level of devastation. However, through the rubble and disaster we saw an incredible outpouring of love, compassion, and sense of community. Neighbors were helping neighbors, strangers were caring for strangers, and fellow Texans and Americans from across the state and country swiftly came tothe aid of the thousands of individuals who were hurting from this storm. In North Texas alone, we opened our hearts and our arms to hundreds of families seeking relief opening three shelters, including one that still has more than 2,000 guests and more than 200 pets. In addition, businesses from across the Metroplex have donated water, food, and necessities to help these families as they try to pick up the pieces. Today, the House voted to bolster the efforts of all who have lent their support to the relief efforts by fulfilling the full request from the Administration for emergency relief funding. While this is the first step in a long road ahead, we will continue to support the efforts to rebuild these communities and help our fellow Americans get back on their feet.
