Houston Homicides Up 59 Percent in First Quarter of 2015

Seventy-three people have lost their lives at the hands of another person in Houston, Texas during the first quarter of 2015. This represents an increase in Houston homicides of 59 percent compared to the same timeframe in 2014 according to information from the Houston Police Department (HPD). DACA and DAPA Update

Issues: 

On February 16, 2015, a Texas federal district court judge issued a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking the Obama Executive Actions on Immigration: the expansion of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the creation of Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA). Because of the injunction, the government has delayed its plans to accept DACA and DAPA applications. Read more about DACA and DAPA Update

Helping our Farmers

Issues: 

In the past few weeks, we have seen an unprecedented amount of rain in the Coastal Bend region. While rain seems like it would be good for farming, we have simply had too much. I heard from many of our local farmers that the water covering their fields was preventing them from being able to plant their crops. Read more about Helping our Farmers
