Cornyn Announces Federal Grant for New Wastewater Treatment Plant in Rural Hidalgo County

Last week I announced that the North American Development Bank (NADB) and the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation (NAWSC) have signed a $1.89 million grant agreement to support the construction of a new regional wastewater collection and treatment project that will service more than 1,600 colonia residents in Hidalgo County.

This agreement will help improve the quality of life in this community by ensuring clean, safe disposal of wastewater for its residents. Modern sanitation is something no community should be forced to live without, and I am thankful for the dedication of the Hidalgo County officials and local organizations who helped make this possible.

Background on the Hidalgo Wastewater Collection and Treatment Project:

Residents in the project area, located to the northwest of Donna, Texas, currently use outdated sanitation systems that are not compliant with modern regulatory standards. The project was certified by the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) in June, and will install a wastewater collection system that will provide first-time access to 400 homes in six colonias, as well as the decommissioning of the existing wastewater disposal system. The grant funds are provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Border Environment Infrastructure Fund (BEIF), which is administered by the NADB.
