Congressman Smith Supports Bill to Hold President Accountable on Appointments

I support legislation to address the legal chaos surrounding the President’s unconstitutional recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act (H.R. 1120) orders the NLRB to cease and desist on all actions that require a full quorum until the entire board is confirmed by the Senate.

The Act prevents the Board from implementing, administering or enforcing any decisions finalized on or after January 4, 2012. The bill passed by a vote of 219-209.   Read more »

Heat Packing Dad Shoots Armed Robber at Burger King

Travis Harris was just beginning a robbing bender in Miami. But then Travis made a very bad decision when he thought he saw a potentially great mark in a family having lunch at Burger King. Travis brandished his hand gun and demanded the family turn over their valuables, then proceeded to make his escape. What he didn’t plan on was a father who was armed and clear thinking: the father shot Travis in the leg and he was followed, then apprehended by the police.   Read more »

President Obama’s Budget: More of the Same Failed Policies

The President’s Budget By The Numbers

$8.2 Trillion In New Debt
$1.1 Trillion In New Taxes
$964 Billion In New Spending

The budget President Obama finally released today is months late and so full of gimmicks that the President cannot claim he is supporting deficit reduction. The fact is President Obama’s budget will never balance and it keeps the country on an unsustainable path of never ending deficits.   Read more »

IRS: We Can Read Your Email Without a Warrant

The IRS claims that its agents do not need warrants to read private electronic communications, including email and text messages. The ACLU uncovered the policy yesterday following a Freedom of Information Act request.

Writes The Hill: “In a 2009 handbook, the IRS said the Fourth Amendment does not protect emails because Internet users 'do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in such communications.' A 2010 presentation by the IRS Office of General Counsel reiterated the policy.”   Read more »

The UN passed the Arms Trade Treaty last week

Greg Abbott - Your Liberty -- as a United States citizen -- was weakened and threatened when the Obama Administration helped the United Nations pass the Arms Trade Treaty. Immediately after this disappointing vote, I wrote a letter to President Obama urging him not to sign the treaty.

If the President signs the treaty allowing the UN to be involved in regulating firearms in the U.S., Texas will lead the charge to have the treaty overturned in court as a violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Our liberties are at stake. Will you sign my letter to President Obama? Click here to add your name so together we can make a difference.   Read more »

Sacrificing Liberty for Equality of Outcome in the Obama Administration

The Obama Administration is at it again, looking for a way to make things “fair”. This time the administration’s idea of fair is to put a cap on how much money retirees receive from their investments. Roughly $205,000 a year is determined by the administration to be enough for you to retire on regardless of how much you’ve actually accumulated. The Obama Administration is looking to put a cap on tax preferred accounts like IRA’s in order to generate more revenue and make the tax code “fair.”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Sen. Texas Activists Given Hundreds of CCISD Election Ballots by Harris County Clerk - NO ID - Ballot Integrity Alert

Two activists, Lianne Russell and Tanya A. Robertson, walked into the Harris County Elections Division (Houston, TX) last week and were given ACTUAL ballots when they only asked for Mail In Ballot Applications. They were given these ballots without even being asked to show a photo ID or proof of identity!

It gets worse, the hosting entity (Clear Creek ISD) is the School District that will benefit from their own election. They handle their own ballots, count their ballots, and police their election.

A simple mistake? Even if it was, it still goes to show the importance of having measures in place to prevent voter fraud and to protect ballot integrity.
