Alec Baldwin and Me . . .

I have a confession to make. I actually like Alec Baldwin. I know the guy is a left-wing loon, but I actually really like him on screen. I think he is absolutely hilarious in "30 Rock" playing Jack Donaghy, the Vice-President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming for GE. Jack is also a solid "country-club Republican." I believe Baldwin's portrayal is genius comedy. I also love Alec Baldwin in the movies. His speech in GlenGarry Glen Ross is a movie classic.

Of course, when Alec Baldwin is off-screen his loony politics as well as his subpar parenting skills tend to gain notice. He has had his fair share of idiotic ravings. Perhaps, he will add to this list during his upcoming turn as host of the Oscars? Who knows. Regardless, I still like watching the guy on screen. He does his job very well, and I can appreciate that.

The interesting thing about Hollywood-activist-types is that they don't really care about political strategy. Maybe they don't understand it, but I think they just don't have the patience for it. They know they are on the side of truth and justice, so they are just going to lay it out there! Damn the consequences! This attitude leads to revealing moments when they show their true colors.

Consider this Alec Baldwin piece in the Huffington Post as Exhibit A. Its title is "Put a Major Oil Company Out of Business." In it, Baldwin argues that Democrats should drop health care reform (I told you I liked this guy) and concentrate all their efforts on triggering the collapse of a major oil company. Seriously. Baldwin argues:

The goal of this country's energy policy, long-term, should be to trigger a series of events that would lead to one clear measurement of our progress. That is the collapse of a major oil company. If a major oil company went out of business, we would be on the right track.

This is absolute lunacy. The man has a bloodlust for economic ruin. Which oil company should it be? Exxon? Exxon employs 82,000 people worldwide. How about Chevron? Chevron employs 67,000 people worldwide. Can you imagine the Democrats publicly embracing such a policy position?

But, you see Baldwin's proposal is revealing because it is exactly what the left-wing liberal leadership of our country WOULD LIKE TO DO. They just can't say it. Baldwin is not so constrained. Thus, in a way, he is providing a public service, revealing the true mind of a liberal in a way that our President, Speaker of the House, or Senate Majority Leader are unwilling to do.

Thanks, Alec. I appreciate the heads up. When are new episodes of "30 Rock" coming back?
