Bloomberg's Mayors Group Partners with Al Qaeda to Steal Your Gun Rights
Who would have thought that the Mayor of New York City would partner with Al Qaeda? But that is just what is happening. Mayor Bloomberg and his anti-gun rights group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, have joined with Al Qaeda to ask Congress to stop your right as an individual to sell your guns. The victims of 9-11 must be turning over in their graves at this partnership.
The partnership happens in a 30 second commercial featuring Al Qaeda spokesman Azzam al-Amriki where he says, “America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle without a background check. So what are you waiting for?”
First of all, the quote above is an absolute lie. The sale of fully automatic firearms is highly taxed and regulated. Individuals or dealers who own or manufacture them are required to account for their transfer or disposal. Transfer is usually recorded on an ATF Form 4.
Secondly, the so-called "Gun Show Loophole" is a myth. And licensed gun dealer who is selling guns of most any type at a gun show MUST complete the same background check a gun store would complete using an ATF Form 1. An individual who is walking around a gun show wishing to sell a privately owned gun may do so without filling out an ATF Form 1, but that is not a loophole related to gun shows. A private citizen is allowed to sell a gun they own ANYWHERE without filling out any forms.
So, what determines whether a person is a private citizen selling their gun or a dealer who would be required to document the sale with a background check of the buyer? The ATF answers that question in a very ambiguous way as follows.
What does “engaged in the business” mean?
But if you, as an individual own a gun and want to sell it because you want some extra cash, or you want to buy a different gun or whatever other reason other that what is described above, you are allowed, by law, to sell that gun anywhere to anyone. Once again... THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GUN SHOW LOOPHOLE.
That Mayor Bloomberg would partner with Al Qaeda is disgusting in and of its own accord. But what this ad is really about is an attempt by the Anti Gun Mayors to take away your individual right to sell a gun.
In a press release Mayor Bloomberg said, “Criminals already know how to take advantage of gaps in our gun laws, and now Al Qaeda knows, too.” “Americans, including NRA members, overwhelmingly support stronger laws to keep guns away from terrorists and other dangerous people. You are checked against the terror watch list to board an airplane, but you don’t have to be checked when buying assault weapons. Weak gun laws aren’t just a crime problem, they’re a national security threat – and this ad should be a wake-up call to Congress,” Bloomberg continued. Perhaps, Mayor Bloomberg would support TSA Style Groping of Gun Show attendees?
As an owner of a business related to the firearms industry, I agree that there should be strong enforcement of gun laws to punish individuals who abuse our right to keep and bear arms. However, we must not sacrifice our individual rights as law abiding citizens because of the conduct of a few criminals or terrorists. Mayor Bloomberg is lying. Assault weapons are not being sold without background checks. Perhaps we should define what an "assault weapon" is. An "assault weapon" is a hand-held weapon, either a rifle or a pistol, capable of firing in fully automatic (bursts) or semi-automatic (single shots) mode. The change of modes is usually accomplished with a "selector switch". In other words, a machine gun.
Bloomberg wants to scare you by partnering with Al Qaeda to make you believe that a terrorist can go to a gun show and buy a machine gun without any background check. This is simply not true.
The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) has documented the lies of this organization. Their website also contains an interactive map where you can find out if your mayor is a member of this anti-gun organization. If your mayor is a member, take action to get them to remove themselves as a member, or you should work to remove them as your mayor.
In Texas the only member is:
|Mayor Richard Ward|
Don't tolerate these kinds of lies. Let your Mayor know you support the right of an individual to sell their privately owned guns.
