Backing the Blue

Last week we celebrated National Police Week, when we take time to recognize the heroic service of our nation's law enforcement officers who bravely put themselves in harm's way to keep our families and communities safe.

Throughout the week, my office recognized the brave law enforcement heroes in Texas-11 who have committed their lives to upholding law and order. 

I was glad to participate in the "Back the Blue Bike Tour" to the National Law Enforcement Memorial that honors those who have fallen in the line of duty. The two officers I laid a wreath for are Concho County Sheriff's Deputies Samuel Leonard and Sergeant Stephen Jones, who lost their lives in the line of duty a year ago. 

I had the honor of meeting with Concho County Sheriff Miller and the Deputies' families here in Washington D.C. The families of these brave men have made the ultimate sacrifice. I am thankful and humbled by the price that they paid in service to our community. 

Camille and I continue to pray for these families and all whose loved ones in uniform have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
