Cornyn Calls On Kerry To Push For Immediate Approval of Stalled Adoptions In Congo

I urge U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to call on Congolese officials to immediately resume stalled international adoptions impacting hundreds of families in the United States:

Hundreds of American families—including a number of families in my home state of Texas—have been stuck in limbo for months, waiting to bring home their adopted children from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I urge Secretary Kerry, while in Kinshasa, to demand an immediate resolution from Congolese officials so these children can make their journey home to the U.S.

These families have opened their hearts and homes to children in need of a loving family and they’ve met every requirement asked of them; they should not have to wait a day longer to bring home their children.

Earlier this month, I joined 126 of my colleagues in the Senate and the House in signing a letter to President Joseph Kabila and Prime Minister Matata Ponyo requesting their assistance in resolving this humanitarian crisis.
