Pfluger Leads Letter Urging USDA to Provide Wildfire Relief

Wednesday, I led a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack urging the Department of Agriculture to utilize all tools at their disposal to assist producers affected by the devastating wildfires in Texas.

The letter was co-signed by Representatives Roger Williams, Judge John Carter, Ronny L. Jackson, and Pat Fallon.

In the letter, the Members write: “The fires, which began on February 23rd, have resulted in the loss of lives and livelihoods in the communities we represent – destroying homes, small businesses, historic buildings, and agricultural operations … Texas producers will need additional resources to cover production losses. As you know, USDA and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) have the ability to expedite and prioritize emergency loans to producers recovering from wildfire inflicted damages. More resources are needed, and we thank you for timely attention to this request.”

I traveled across our district to visit the firefighters, first responders, and community leaders who are working day and night to save lives and fight these vicious wildfires. The immense loss of livestock, cattle, crops, and homes is beyond heartbreaking. Although we are seeing an outpouring of support, more resources are needed. I will continue fighting alongside Representatives Roger Williams, Judge Carter, Ronny Jackson, Pat Fallon and others to secure relief for our communities.
