Rep. McCaul Announces Summer 2023 Intern Class

U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) announced the Summer 2023 intern class in his Washington, D.C., office.

"Our interns are integral to the success of my office, and I'm excited to have such a dynamic group this summer," said Rep. McCaul. "I look forward to working with these bright young people and seeing all they will do for Texas' 10th district."

Grayson Shirey, originally from Omaha, Nebraska, is a rising junior at Baylor University, where she is double majoring in International Studies and French with minors in Criminal Justice and Military Studies. At Baylor, she is involved in Model United Nations and International Justice Mission. She is excited to intern for Congressman McCaul because of his strong defense of faith, freedom, and international cooperation.

Jon Mark Corts was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but has spent the majority of his high school and college life in Texas. He attends Texas A&M University in Texas' 10th district, where he studies Accounting. He hopes to pursue a graduate degree in international affairs and eventually work in national security. Jon Mark is most excited to learn about the innerworkings of our nation's government, meet new people, gain a deeper understanding of the world of foreign affairs, and find the best cup of coffee in D.C.

Jose Manuel Portela III of Dallas, Texas, is a Society Ethics and Law major with a double minor in Business and Philosophy and is a member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of ’24. Jose is a first-generation Aggie and serves the school as a Judge Advocate General, Vice President of the Aggie Network for the 1879 Society, member of the University Disciplinary Appeals Panel, and member of the Aggie Recruitment Committee. From his internship with Congressman McCaul, Jose hopes to gain detailed insight into the operations of Congress and how politics and law intersect. Jose plans to apply for law school and take the LSAT this coming summer. After completing law school, Jose plans to work in the District of Columbia focusing on commercial litigation and corporate law.

Wesley King was born in Hawaii but has spent most of his life in Austin, Texas. He completed his degree in International Studies at Texas A&M University and is currently pursuing a Masters in International Affairs at the Bush School of Government and Public Service. Wes comes from a family of public servants ranging from military servicemen and women all the way to government officials, so his guiding principles come from those values instilled by all his family members. Wes intends to apply his values of service and patriotism in his own service to America post-graduation. Wesley is looking forward to learning more about the legislative process and attending briefs that enhance his overall knowledge about public and foreign affairs, so he can apply it to his studies and professional future.

Aaron Platt was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He will be attending The University of Southern California (USC) in the Fall, where he will focus his studies on International Relations and Business. During his internship, Aaron hopes to develop his knowledge about foreign affairs and learn more about policy making and Congress. In his free time, you can find Aaron playing golf, tennis or basketball. He also enjoys watching all sports, both in person and on TV. During the course of his internship, Aaron looks forward to studying foreign policy, specifically with relation to cybersecurity, and more about the inner workings of government.

Rep. McCaul’s Washington, D.C., office provides paid internships for the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters for undergraduate and graduate students. Students undergo a unique educational experience, where they get hands-on experience working in Congress and learning from the policy, scheduling, and communications teams while expanding their professional network.
