Rep. Tony Gonzales Joins Rep. Tom Emmer in Defending the Rights of Law-Abiding Gun Owners

Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) joined Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) to introduce the Firearm Due Process Protection Act. This bill provides recourse for law-abiding Americans who were improperly denied the ability to legally purchase a firearm because of administrative errors made during a background check.

“I will always stand up and defend law-abiding Americans’ right to own a firearm. The Firearm Due Process Protection Act provides recourse for Americans who were wrongly denied their constitutional right to purchase a firearm,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “I am proud to stand with Congressman Tom Emmer and 51 of my House Republican colleagues to protect your 2nd Amendment rights."

“Thousands of Americans every year are being prevented from exercising their constitutional rights not because they are criminals, but because of bureaucratic errors. The Firearm Due Process Protection will provide important recourse to Americans whose Second Amendment freedoms are being restricted through no fault of their own. We are grateful to our over fifty colleagues who stand in support of this common-sense fix,” said Congressman Tom Emmer.

The Firearm Due Process Protection Act gives Americans the ability to seek a court judgment to correct invalid information if the FBI does not act on an appeal within the two-month deadline. Additionally, the legislation increases congressional oversight by requiring statistics regarding the total number and nature of appeals to be reported to Congress annually.
