Sens. Cruz, Cornyn To Honor Texas Rangers’ Bicentennial

U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) will introduce the Texas Rangers Bicentennial Resolution next week, a bill that commemorates the 200^th anniversary of the Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The bill honors the men and women, past and present, who have dedicated their lives to upholding public safety in the Lone Star State as peace officers in the Texas Ranger Division.

Upon introduction, Sen. Cruz said:

“I am always proud to back the blue – especially Texas’s finest, the Texas Rangers. This year, as this prestigious division celebrates its 200th year of service to the Lone Star State and our Nation, I am proud to work with Sen. Cornyn to recognize this pillar in Texas that has contributed so greatly to the safety of Texans over the years.”

Sen. Cornyn said:

“Congratulations to the Texas Rangers on two centuries of service to the people of Texas. The Texas Rangers are the oldest state law enforcement agency in North America, and I applaud them for their bravery, resilience, and dedication to the Lone Star State.”

BACKGROUND: 

The Texas Ranger Division is the oldest state law enforcement agency in North America, established in 1823. They are internationally respected for: conducting major criminal investigations, suppressing organized crime, performing border reconnaissance, expertise with respect to special weapons and tactics, serving as bomb squads, special rapid response capabilities, crisis negotiation capabilities, joint intelligence center management, and

investigating unsolved crimes.
