Bill Flores Discusses this Week in Washington

I released the following statements regarding President Trump’s budget proposal and the House passage of H. Con. Res. 24:

President Trump’s FY 2020 Budget Proposal
I applaud President Trump for setting a budget blueprint that prioritizes America’s safety and security while reducing wasteful spending to balance the budget and reduce the deficit. While I support many of the spending priorities that the president has proposed, Congress ultimately controls the power of the purse and will set the federal budget. As Congress works to pass the FY 2020 budget, it is imperative that we address the true driver of our debt – mandatory spending. The other type of federal spending, discretionary spending, which includes defense spending, accounts for only 30 percent of the federal budget and is at about the same level of funding as it was when I was elected in 2010.

As a member of the House Budget Committee, I look forward to working with the Trump Administration and my House colleagues on a budget that funds our nation’s important priorities while restoring fiscal responsibility to the federal government.

H. Con. Res. 24
Transparency and accountability in government are cornerstones of our democracy. As such, I voted for this bipartisan resolution which calls for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to be made available to the public and to Congress. Hardworking taxpayers have already spent over $25 million on this investigation, it is only right that Americans have access to the report.
