Bill To Bar Taxpayer Dollars From Funding Civilian Trials Of 9/11 Co-Conspirators
Today, I released the following statement regarding legislation I have cosponsored to bar taxpayer dollars from funding the trial of 9/11 terrorists in civilian court:
9/11 was an act of war, and the terrorists who planned and perpetrated it should be treated as enemy combatants and tried in military commissions. Taxpayer dollars should not be used to bring these terrorists to America and to give them the rights of an American criminal defendant. This Administration’s determination to treat terrorists as common criminals is part of a pre-9/11 mindset that makes America less safe. Civilian trials for terrorists would put Americans at risk, and American taxpayers should not be forced to pay for them.
