Socialism on our soil? Chinese Government broadcasting radio programming from Texas!

The following letter was sent in from TexasGOPVote fan, Brad Boney, regarding China Radio International broadcasting in Texas:

Recently, owners of KGBC (1540am) in Galveston, TX leased the station’s airtime to one of China’s state-owned media companies, China Radio International (CRI). CRI is the overseas broadcasting arm of the People’s Republic of China and one of the three central medial organizations in China. KGBC began broadcasting from Galveston in 1947, but financial strain caused by low ad revenue in a weak economy and FM dominated music caused the owner, SIGA broadcasting to entertain the lease.

Listeners who tuned into 1540 AM on Jan. 1 expecting to hear local talk, classic rock and local Galveston programming, instead heard Asian music and political forums broadcast from the Chinese government.
China Radio International's “stated goal”, according to online resources is “promoting understanding and goodwill between the people of China and others throughout the world”. The radio station's broadcast facility is located in a non-descript building on Pelican Island, by the Port of Galveston.
How ironic, that a propaganda arm of the Chinese Government, could so easily and silently, move into broadcasting in the United States. While the station doesn’t reach much further than Galveston Island and offshore, what does this mean to us and the United States?
