TexasGOPVote Blogger Endorsements: Louis Guthrie - Conservative Choice for Harris County Sheriff

For the past two years, I have been talking with and observing several candidates for the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Harris County. As Republicans and Conservatives in Harris County we are blessed to have many outstanding candidates in this race. As I studied these candidates, looked at their backgrounds and listened to what they intend to do as Sheriff, I have chosen to place my support and vote behind the person I believe to be both best qualified to be Sheriff and the most likely to be able to defeat the incumbent Sheriff, Adrian Garcia in the fall.  That person is Louis Guthrie.

I have known Guthrie since 2008 when he was a Lieutenant with the Harris County Sheriffs Office (HCSO) and I was working with US Border Watch on issues related to border security, illegal immigration and immigration reform.  He successfully advocated for better policies in the HCSO to make our streets safer by removing illegal aliens who were being processed at the Harris County Jail for other major crimes. This led to the training of deputies under the federal 287g program allowing local law enforcement to work with Immigration Customs Enforcement to identify and deport criminal illegal aliens.

Guthrie recently won a civil suit against Sheriff Garcia over his wrongful termination from the Sheriffs Department in 2009.  

It is rare that a candidate has an iconic look for the office they are seeking. In this case, I swear, if you look in the dictionary under "Texas Sheriff" you will find this picture of Louis Guthrie.  Okay, maybe that is a stretch, but clearly Guthrie has not only the experience and education to manage this massive budget and office, but also the command experience from inside the office.

Guthrie has worked closely with the Harris County Commissioners Court for the past 10 years and has a huge advantage in understanding how to shape and manage budgets.

Having been active in conservative politics for the last 15 years, and has not only consistently voted, but consistently voted conservative. I feel a bit safer knowing that because the Sheriff is a very powerful position and his policies can have dramatic effects on the lives of the citizens.

Guthrie also has access to key individuals to manifest his vision for the office, something the other candidates do not have. Guthries campaign raised more money than all other candidates combined, which shows he appears to be better organized and is well prepared to carry the campaign forward into the fall.

Guthrie has experience is coordinating multi-jurisdiction tasks force which are critical on the war on drugs and making our streets safer from gangs and drug cartels.  His work as a law enforcement professional has led to the arrest of numerous violent criminals and drug dealers as well as the confiscation of millions of dollars in drugs and assets related to criminal activities.

Guthrie married his beautiful wife, Cheryl in 1993. Cheryl, who grew up in Splendora, is the daughter of a retired Peace Officer and has two brothers currently serving in law enforcement.

I am proud to endorse the campaign of this highly qualified candidate for Sheriff of Harris County.  I hope you will join with me in voting for Louis Guthrie for Sheriff.
