Will Obama Learn A Lesson From Greece?

In hopes of diffusing the country's debt crisis, the Greek Parliament just approved new spending cuts and taxes, prompting 7,000 protestors to gather in Athens today.

According to London Today:

Protesters attacked the leader of Greece's biggest trade union and chased guards away from the country's tomb of the unknown soldier. Youths also fought with police inside the Council of State and tried to break into the labour ministry.

Globe and Mail reported:

Riot police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse rioters who chased the ceremonial guards in 19th-century kilts and tasselled garters away from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier outside the parliament, while a top trade union leader was roughed up by left-wing protesters.

Greece's Socialist government has decided to increase sales, tobacco and alcohol taxes and cut public sector holiday allowances in order to save 4.8billion euros, equal to about 2% of gross domestic product (GDP).

Marco Wanderwitz, a member of Chancellor Merkel's party said,

"If the European Union, and therefore Germany, helps out Greece economically, it will need to give something in exchange… some islands, for example, might be a solution."

Skorpios, which is thought to be the most expensive island has reportedly been put up for sale by Athina Onassis, the granddaughter of Aristotle Onassis, for 100million euros.

Maybe this situation will teach Obama and our government leaders a valuable lesson? If they keep letting our deficit get so out of control, will Americans, too, start out of control riots and be forced to sell American soil to foreign countries?!
