Veterans Town Hall a Success

Issues: 

This week I spoke with local veterans at American Legion Post 364 in Corpus Christi. I heard their concerns about access to healthcare and the incredible backlog in disability claims. After all their service and sacrifice, I am continually shocked at how the Department of Veterans' Affairs is repeatedly unable to do things like respond to veterans in a timely manner or fulfill their basic benefit claims obligations. The ranking was made by Chief Executive’s 2015 Best and Worst States to Do Business report. The magazine surveys top CEOs from 511 companies across the nation. Pete Sessions Statement on the April Jobs Report

Last week the U.S. Commerce Department reported that the U.S. economy slowed dramatically with GDP growing at a disappointing 0.2 percent in the first quarter. In addition, the export of goods and services slowed to 7.2 percent with the export of goods alone slowing to 13.3 percent – the sharpest decline since the Great Recession. Congress extends program that funds local schools & roads for two years

Issues: 

I recently helped pass a two year extension of the Secure Rural Schools funding program in Congress, assuring that critical financial support continues for East Texas counties with federal forest lands.

The Secure Rural Schools & Community Self-Determination Act was included in a new law that improves the way the government pays local doctors to treat Medicare patients – a major reform of Medicare.
