Bloomberg Tells Lawmakers “If you go with the NRA, you are against the lives of our children.”

Issues:

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that lawmakers who are “going with the NRA” are “going against the lives of our children.” “And we have an obligation to tell each other and to try to convince people that if they’re going with the NRA they’re going against the lives of our children and of you and me,” Bloomberg said during a press conference last week to announce a city-wide recycling program. Bloomberg was asked about whether his group Mayors Against Illegal Guns will target Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor, a Democrat, who opposed gun control legislation in the Senate. Congressman Pete Sessions Statement on April Jobs Report

Issues:

Although today's jobs report is good news for some Americans, millions more remain unemployed or have given up looking for work in the Obama economy. Despite the fact that our unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, President Obama failed to even mention the need for private sector job growth or job-creating projects like the Keystone XL Pipeline in his press conference this week.

Texas Senate Passes NRA-Backed Campus Parking Lot Bill And House Schedules Pro-Gun Measures For Consideration This Weekend

Issues:

The following is a press release from the NRA Institute for Legislative Action:

As NRA members begin to gather in Houston for the 2013 Annual Meeting, action is heating up in Austin on Second Amendment-related measures. Yesterday, the Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 1907, sponsored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy), a measure that prohibits public and private colleges and universities from adopting or enforcing policies banning students who are Concealed Handgun Licensees (CHLs) from transporting and storing handguns and ammunition in their privately-owned motor vehicles while driving through or parking on campus. SB 1907 now goes to the Texas House for consideration.

Additionally, the state House is scheduled to consider a full calendar of firearm-related bills this Saturday, May 4, including

Plan B and Minors

Issues:

Update: The Obama Administration has decided to appeal the judge’s ruling that the age restrictions must be removed completely from Plan B sales.

Because of a ruling by a Court in New York on April 5, 2013 and the April 30, 2013 announcement that the Obama Administration has published its intent to allow 15 year olds to buy Plan B over the counter without a prescription or adult supervision,

Can YOU be sued simply for owning stock in a company? Apparently so, if the company went bankrupt!

Imagine you have been working for a company for many years as a faithful employee. You have diligently put away money into the company's 401k program and invested in company stock. The company goes through a merger and you are issued new stock in the new company. Now that company goes bankrupt through no fault of yours and you find yourself being sued for the value of your stock at the time of the merger.  Does that make you feel secure in your investment portfolio?

This is exactly what is happening to many of the shareholders of the Chicago Tribune and LyondellBasell.

God and Guns

Today is the National Day of Prayer and tomorrow is the opening day of the NRA Convention in Houston. Let me try to connect God and guns via Alexis de Tocqueville. Tocqueville wrote, “Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.” This observation exposes the connection between a nation’s character and its ability to enjoy liberty. It also establishes the point that laws cannot establish the right character for enjoying liberty. Read more about God and Guns

What’s missing in most political party fundraising?

Issues:
Tags:

It turns out that not all political fundraising is the same, and the failure to understand the differences can cost a political party substantial donor support.

At last month’s International School of Fundraising in London I was asked to present on a very specific topic: what’s the difference between political party and candidate fundraising, and why does it matter?
