Our Veterans Deserve a VA That Works for Them

I was deeply troubled and frustrated by the lack of quality care and accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Our nation’s veterans, who have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom, deserve a VA that works for them, and provides the best quality care. To make sure we meet the needs of our heroes, I was proud to support today’s bill, Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014, that brings some much-needed reforms to the VA healthcare system.

This bill improves access to care by allowing our veterans to seek private care if they do not live near a VA facility or cannot

Lawsuit Against Obama is More than an Empty Suit

This lawsuit against President Obama is more than an empty suit: the American people have a long list of grievances that merit the legal action being pursued by the House of Representatives. In addition to changing the terms of Obamacare, the president has ignored, undermined, and gone around Congress to create new immigration laws. This has created the current crisis on our border and significantly weakened our nation’s security.

Sen. Cruz: Israel’s Iron Dome Protects our Ally, Protects Us

In the last several weeks over 2,500 rockets rained down on the nation of Israel. 80 percent of the population has had to flee what they're doing and run to bomb shelters to hide: moms, dads, and children. When the alarm goes off, they have sometimes 10, 15 seconds to get to a bomb shelter. Imagine if the same thing were happening here in America.

Even as the fighting in Gaza grabs the headlines, we have to keep our eyes on the far more serious danger of a nuclear Iran. The threat of a nuclear-armed Iran would make Hamas and their rockets seem like child's play and our support

35 year USPS employee called a “Terrorist”

If you work for a government entity, you are being paid to look the other way. Don’t dare expose what’s really happening in a government entity, or you will be railroaded.

When a person is hired by a government entity, the government expects more loyalty than La Cosa Nostra…the Mafia. Read more about 35 year USPS employee called a “Terrorist”

Poe Statement On NFL’S “Punishment” For RB Ray Rice

Recently, a video emerged of Ray Rice, a Baltimore Ravens’ running back, dragging his unconscious then-fiancée out of an elevator after allegedly punching her in the face several times. He was charged with third-degree aggravated assault; however, the prosecutors later dropped the charge after a plea deal was reached. The NFL’s response? A pathetic two game suspension. The league has harsher punishments for “offenses” such as eating unapproved foods or taking fertility drugs without prior approval. Suing the President for Executive Overreach

Remember when President Obama unilaterally delayed Obamacare’s employer mandate without Congressional approval – twice? Or when he tried to grossly expand EPA’s authority? How about when he told us all he needs to push his own liberal agenda without Congress is a pen and a phone? What I have been hearing from you in West Texas is that the President’s abusing his authority, and he’s taking our country in the wrong direction. I agree. I’m especially worried about his unilateral actions to bypass Congress – and bypass the U.S. Constitution. Read more about Suing the President for Executive Overreach

Congressman Blake Farenthold on Protecting Human Trafficking Victims

Last Wednesday, during the House debate on HR 5081, the Strengthening Child Welfare Response to Trafficking Act of 2014, I spoke on the floor in order to support this bill that helps identify and protects the victims of child trafficking. Texas Rep. David Simpson attacked at Town Hall meeting

It seems conservative State Rep. David Simpson who represents the people of District 7 in East Texas has caused some tempers to flare. He held a Town Hall meeting on July 22, 2014 after his seven day family vacation along the Texas-Mexico border. His detailed account is amazing and includes aerial views to show the Rio Grande winding in and out of Mexico and the complexities of securing the Texas-Mexico border. He explained that the border runs in the deepest part of the Rio Grande making it virtually impossible to build a fence there. Read more about Texas Rep. David Simpson attacked at Town Hall meeting

Job-Luring Funds Go Under the Microscope at the Texas Capitol

The special Texas House committee appointed by Speaker Joe Straus to scrutinize Gov. Perry’s job-luring pots of money – chiefly the Texas Enterprise Fund – got down to work last Wednesday. In its first hearing, the House Select Committee on Economic Development Incentives listened to expert witnesses for and against the incentives that were called everything from “interstate job piracy” to essential “tools in the toolbox” for continuation of the state’s dynamic economic growth.

Chair of the committee, Rep. Angie Chen Button, R-Richardson, stressed that while Texas has been a dominant

My Opening Talk at Mises University 2014

The Mises Institute’s week-long Mises University instructional program for students was the most significant academic event of my life as a student when I first attended it in 1993. It’s still going strong even today, and last night, for the second year in a row, I delivered the opening talk. The title I was given was “The Role of Austrian Economics in the Liberty Movement.” If you enjoy the talk and want to learn more about Austrian economics, check out my LearnAustrianEconomics.com resource. (And to attend as a virtual student, click here.)
