This Week in the House

Issues:

This week the House Rules Committee held a hearing on the draft resolution that would provide authority to initiate a lawsuit on behalf of the House of Representatives against the President for failing to carry out his constitutional duties. All elected federal officials take an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and it is our duty to ensure that it is vigorously protected. I believe that authorizing this lawsuit is a necessary step to hold the President accountable for failing to faithfully execute the law.

California’s hardest hit regions, forgotten by Sacramento Democrats, need relief

California’s lagging and uneven economy is leaving millions of people behind. This isn’t the election year spin coming from members of the Ruling Party in Sacramento, but it’s the harsh economic reality being produced by their policies.

Our state’s high 7.6% unemployment rate is well above the national average of 6.3%, and even worse when compared to the 5.1% rate in Texas, California’s toughest economic competitor. These aren’t just numbers: every percentage point means hundreds of thousands of more Californians who are out of work and struggling. Legislation Passed This Past Week

On Wednesday the House of Representatives passed the 2015 Financial Services Appropriations Act. This common-sense legislation prioritizes effective financial programs, streamlines funding for the federal government, and reigns in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It cuts total funding for the IRS by $341 million, prohibits the IRS from targeting Americas for exercising their First Amendment rights, and stops funding for further implementation of ObamaCare. I proudly supported this pro-growth legislation because it efficiently invests in programs essential to the financial health of our country and enforces regulations on government agencies that continue to work inefficiently and unlawfully such as the IRS. Why Employers should encourage talk about salary

According to the National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (NLRA), all workers have the right to engage “concerted activity for mutual aid or protection” and “organize a union to negotiate with [their] employer concerning [their] wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.”

The White House released salaries, and as this video shows these people make an average of $20K more than the average American: Read more about Why Employers should encourage talk about salary

Pro-Life and the Anti-Immigrant Movement

The organizations that are benefiting from the illegal surge on our southern border are those that want to radically change America to anti-immigration, which leads to population control. During the Republican state convention, there was chaos caused by a few ‘radical’ groups that many try to deny. The one thing that seems to connect these ‘radical’ people is NUMBERSUSA, FAIR and CIS. While I have known about these groups, it never occurred to me how much headway they had made in infiltrating conservative groups.

The 2014 Republican State Convention was a huge success!

Issues:

Republican Party of Texas - The annual Texas Republican State Convention was held in Fort Worth for the second year in a row from June 5-7 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, and despite it being during the mid-term elections, there was still an attendance of approximately 8,000 people!

Attendees were treated to rousing speeches from Greg Abbott, Rick Perry, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Rand Paul, and more from our November ticket. Breakout sessions were attended by more people than ever before, an amazing video was presented by Speaker Joe Straus highlighting the work of the 83rd Legislature, and much more made it one of the most entertaining

Democrats Declare War on the Catholic Church

The Democrats have waged war on the religious liberty, particularly the Catholic Church. Forty-six Senate Democrats are cosponsoring legislation to reverse the Supreme Court’s Burwell v. Hobby Lobby decision and force businesses and religious non-profits, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, to authorize abortion-inducing drugs for employees or pay millions in faith fines. Palin And West Are Wrong Calling For Impeachment Before November

Once again Conservatives are letting their impatience and frustration with the dictatorial powers of the Obama administration lead them to call for actions that cannot happen so long as the Democrats control the Senate.

Sarah Palin and Col. Allen West, two conservative leaders that I hold in high regard, are making a BIG MISTAKE calling for Impeachment of the President before the November elections. Obama can never be removed from office so long as the Senate is controlled by Harry Reid and the Democrat majority. Winning control of the Senate should be our first and last priority. Sen. Cruz: Israel’s fight against radical Islamic terrorism, and the Iranian regime that supports it, is our fight as well

Yesterday, I spoke on the Senate floor about the urgent need to reverse the longstanding and misguided Obama-Clinton-Kerry policy towards Israel, laid out in a speech by Obama advisor Philip Gordon in Tel Aviv last week. Rather than pressuring Israel to make even more security concessions to the Palestinians while terrorist rockets rain down from Gaza, I argued that the United States should support Israel’s efforts to construct aggressive defensive measures such as the security barrier and the Iron Dome missile defense system that have made Israeli civilians safer.
