Stop Government Abuse Week

This week, the House will vote on a series of bills that will help rein in government abuse and stop President Obama from exceeding his executive authority. We’re designating it Stop Government Abuse Week, and our focus will be on good-government bills that hold Washington accountable to the American people. The bills we’re voting on this week cover a wide range of issues—from private property rights to bringing transparency to regulations.

Poll: Wendy Davis Slipping While Greg Abbott Soars

Issues: 

In a poll released today by the Texas Tribune, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis trails Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott by eleven points. The margin between Abbott and Davis has nearly doubled since the same poll conducted in October, 2013.

Glenn Hegar’s New Ad Hits Home – Cut Waste and Inefficiency – Texas Comptroller Race Update

The Glenn Hegar for Texas Comptroller campaign has come out with a new tv ad. The new ad is titled “Our Future.” One of my favorite lines of this new ad is that Hegar chaired a committee to eliminate waste and inefficiency in government, saving taxpayers millions. Houston PD Homicide Div. Under Investigation For Undisclosed Reasons

The Houston Police Department (HPD) announced this week, an internal investigation into its Homicide Division. The Tenth Amendment And The Texas Republican Primary

Prior to the ratification by the states of The Constitution, there was concern among many of the delegates of the colonies that a new federal government might exercise powers beyond those limited ones enumerated in The Constitution. It was suggested that, The Constitution include a bill of inviolable rights. Some including the primary author James Madison, opposed such on two arguments. 1) Those limitations were implicit in The Constitution’s enumeration of limited powers. Congressman Neugebauer Spearheads Letter Urging Texas Participation in Pilot Program for Food Stamp Reform

As a senior member of the House Committee on Agriculture and a member of the Farm Bill Conference Committee, I spearheaded a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission, requesting that Texas take part in a pilot program to help families on food stamps find employment.

The pilot program was included in H.R. 2642, commonly known as the Farm Bill, the first legislation to reform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since the Welfare Reform Act of 1996.
