Cutting Its Nose To Spite Its Face? Seriously?

You know, I had a lot of respect for Debra Medina. She really ran an impressive grassroots campaign for Governor, but then she goes and does something ridiculous and I can't keep my mouth shut.

Earlier this week the Republican Party of Texas denied Mrs. Medina's organization, We Texans, exhibit space for the 2010 state convention. Upon receiving the news, Mrs. Medina sent a letter requesting that the RPT reconsider their decision claiming that the party is "cutting its nose to spite its face".

Yes, the party is in debt; however, Mrs. Medina sued the party after the last convention and still has not conceded a gubernatorial race that she lost months ago. It seems to me that she only wants to play nice with the RPT if we play by HER rules.

This is ridiculous because no organization in their right mind would allow exhibit space to someone who sued them at the last convention. In addition, Mrs. Medina was given a chance to meet with the Rules Committee and they upheld the RPT's policy of not allowing organizations that have sued the party a booth at the convention.

I understand that the Republican Party is not perfect and as Mrs. Medina has pointed out, our party is mired in debt. Fortunately things are beginning to turn around, in October 2009 the State Republican Executive Committee elected Cathie Adams, a staunch conservative who has been involved in grassroots activism for nearly 30 years, to be the new state chairman. Mrs. Adams had previously been President of the Texas Eagle Forum for 17 years.

In just a few months as chairman, Mrs. Adams has lowered the party's debt by at least $68,000. For some reason though, many people have already tried to place blame for the party's debt on Mrs. Adams and throw her under the bus before she even really gets started. If she can lower our debt by that much in a few months then I am sure that with a full 2-year term as chairman Mrs. Adams will get our party's fiscal house in order as it well should be. Cathie Adams is the type of state chairman that Debra Medina and her supporters should be trying to work with, she is a grassroots conservative who has worked tirelessly to fix our fiscal mess.

While Debra Medina is definitely a passionate conservative, I think that by attacking the Republican Party of Texas for denying her an exhibit space, SHE is "cutting her nose". I believe that if she continues to fight this battle she will only ruin her own credibility as there is nothing illogical in the RPT upholding its own rules.

Comments

I commented extensively on Medina and while she denied strongly that she was any kind of libertarian it was clear by her admissions, her affiliations and from your comments here that she actually is RonPaulista psuedo-libertarian. These people who are a variation of libertarian but insist they are "real Republicans" are what I call "crypto-libertarians" and I declare they are RINOs. Please see my article on TexasGOPvote here

The argument of not allowing an individual to participate because they have sued the organization in the past is illogical.  Here is why:
1. The TX GOP has a process to resolve party issues - one that includes litigation. Unless the party's reason for offering this process to resolve issues is disingenuous and/or designed to keep those who raise issues out, then they can't hold their own process against their members.  It is the equivalent of reporting an issue with your supervisor to the designated channels and then getting fired because you raised the issue.
2. The last time I checked, Medina was not found as having brought a frivolous lawsuit nor has a judgment been entered against her to pay the party’s attorney fees and court cost.  That means that the issue is still under consideration.
3. If the party plans to hold a grudge to those who questions issues that seems illegal, the party seems to be deeming itself god-like and unapproachable and unable to found in error. If you go along with this notion of the party being able to exclude individuals who have sued them, then you are basically saying that whatever the party says goes.

When all other options of resolve have been exhausted, our courts are designed to settle the differences and make a decision as to who is right and who is wrong. And if the party chooses to exclude those who brought the case, God help any conservative judges that may rule against the party, as I imagine the party would also pull their support from anyone who sued or ruled in such a matter. Oh, well maybe the judges know better than to rule against the party.

If the Texas Republican Party excludes Debra Medina then it is excluding me and many, many other grassroots activists that are already extremely skeptical about a state party that has given us George W. Bush and repeatedly keeps shoving Rick "Goodhair" Perry down our throats.  While Arizona and other states are ACTUALLY DOING REPUBLICAN THINGS, Perry fiddles, and this red state becomes more purple every day.

Medina is correct, and the Republican Party will only lose more members and their support the more they try to cover up those that question party ethics. Perhaps the one good thing bout this incident is that it fuels/furthers the mission to bring this party back to its founders ideas and ideals. It is high time that the dictatorship that the Republican Party has fostered within its ranks wakes up to the reality that people are tired and ready to fight for the reasons this party was established. The youngest members of this party are not going to lie down and take the elders constant ignoring of the party planks, and the time for upheaval is fast coming. I was at the State Convention last year, as was my daughter who was also a delegate and is now an elected precinct chair. We will continue to spread the word to those who will be paying for the decisions made now. No more complacency.

Just more of the good ole boy GOP bull. She was taken down by the machine which has "their" candidate no matter who won(see KBH or Perry) until Medina started showing well in the run up to the debates and the primary. They took her out in a concerted effort with Gov Zoolander's office, a local state elected senator, two local radio stations, and Glenn Beck. Incidently, she was the only candidate who signed Glenn Beck's 912 Pact...and who did Beck shill for? Zoolander.

GOP, this is why you will never get another dime from me or for your machine candidates until you get real with Texans and stop impeding the progress of real, citizen candidates to challenge your bought and sold candidates like Gov Rick "Zoolander" Perry and his merry band of lying liars especially regarding the border catastrophe.

I am a former delegate from my district and have been a life long republican who has donated not only to local and state races, but national races, too. No more. You right the ship and I might come back, but until then I vote for the most conservative and the best candidate EVERY time. I could care less about winning with the only person who can win when that person is nothing but a RINO progressive who will vote exactly like a liberal democrat when it comes down to it. The longer you guys keep re-electing the same turncoats, the longer it will be before you will see real change and conservative principles enacted in government.

Where's tax reform?
Where's the border fence?
Where' limited government?
Where's personal responsibility?
Where's the abortion bans?
Where's 2nd ammendment legislation and why do we need a CHL when we have the 2nd ammendment already?
Where's the freedom from government in religion?
Where's entitlement reform?
Where's real spending cuts and tax cuts?
Where's accountability in the Federal Reserve and why are they still running our economy as a private bank?????????????

Why are you soooo afraid of a registered nurse???

I have several names for you, all of which I can't print you gutless wonders.

I vow to only donate to specific candidates and never again to a party.

Mr. Trevino, Debra Medina sued the party to FIX what was broken.  It is because she understands the Republican party is OUR party and does not belong to just a few who have been elected to make decisions.  This or any other lawsuit should NOT have any bearing at all on whether an organization should have a booth space for the convention.  The case is unresolved, and I do believe our Republican Party does believe one is considered INNOCENT until proven otherwise.

It is interesting that the Rules committee could not produce any documentation confirming the so-called rule.  Shame on this action.  I, too, respect what Cathie Adams's accomplishments are.  I equally respect Debra Medina's accomplishments and actions to ensure our Republican Party an accountable and transparent party.  It should never just be about the money.   It is an unfair accusation for you to indicate Debra "...still has not conceded a gubernatorial race that she lost months ago."  When we have differing opinions, we should confront one another with respect.  I hope you apologize for this.  Respectfully, Marie Day, 2010 Delegate, Lavaca County

I love all the emails I get supporting AZ and griping about our open borders, especially the ones from folks who supported Perry.  Mr. "In-State Tuition for Illegals" himself, who says the AZ law "Is not for Texas."

When you're sick of paying welfare and subsidized tuition to a bunch of illegal immigrants, don't blame me; I VOTED FOR MEDINA!
