Reps. Arrington and Jackson Host West Texas Ag Tour

Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) and Rep. Ronny Jackson (TX-13) spent the day meeting with producers, touring state-of-the-art West Texas ag facilities, and discussing the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill.

The members started the day at South Plains Implement in Levelland, TX meeting with the Levelland Chamber of Commerce & Ag Committee.

We don't have the luxury of energy independence or food security if it isn't for the hardworking, God-fearing, freedom loving people in rural America.” said Rep. Arrington.

After meeting with the Levelland Chamber, the Representatives traveled to Lubbock, TX to the Texas Tech University/Lubbock Independent School District Agri-Stem Facility and USDA Cotton Classing Office. The TTU/LISD Agri-Stem Facility is focused on getting students involved in agriculture and the USDA Cotton Classing Office is the only USDA/Agriculture Marketing Service partnership with a university.

Arrington said, “Cotton is deeply woven into the cultural and economic fabric of Texas. The innovations that the USDA and Texas Tech have worked together to create are changing the cotton industry as we know it. Our cotton producers must have the tools to compete in the global marketplace and continue to put clothes on the backs of the people of West Texas, America, and around the world.”

The last stop of the day was at PYCO Industries, where the Representatives participated in a roundtable discussion, toured the mill, and held a press conference covering the day’s events. 

“With West Texas hard work and ingenuity, PYCO has grown from a modest regional cooperative operation into the largest cottonseed cooperative serving the southern United States,” said Rep. Arrington. "As the Representative for the Food, Fuel, and Fiber Capital of the World, I will always fight for policies that incentivize innovation, empower our job creators, and keep Rural America strong.”
