Hurd Celebrates 75th Birthday of Big Bend National Park

I recently joined the Big Bend Conservancy, Acting Director of the National Park Service (NPS) David Vela and other stakeholders and park advocates at the Gage Hotel in Marathon to support the 75th Anniversary of Big Bend National Park, which opened on June 12, 1944.

At the event, I reminded guests that nature is not a destination but our home, and we must remember that conservation is vital to ensuring our parks and public lands remain beautiful and accessible for future generations.

As we celebrate 75 years of Big Bend National Park, we also are reminded that we have to make sure our parks remain beautiful and accessible for another 75 years. Our parks are not just America’s jewels but also a representation of how nature is our home, and conservation is vital address climate change. I will continue to fight for federal funding for NPS deferred maintenance backlogged projects vital to maintaining our parks and will work with my colleagues to find free-market-based conservation solutions. Our nation’s future depends on it.

I represent eight national parks and historic sites across the 23rd District of Texas including Big Bend National Park, the San Antonio Missions, Amistad National Recreation Area, the Fort Davis National Historic Site, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River, El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail and El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail.
