Rep. Roy issues statement on slain Austin Police Department officer

Dripping Springs, Texas — Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement Saturday morning:

Today, our community lost one of our finest when an Austin Police Officer was killed in the line of duty in South Austin.  No words can fill the void felt right now for family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Austin community.  We mourn their loss and the life of a true hero; and we offer our prayers and support today and in the days ahead, as well as for the officer wounded in the line of duty.

But even as Americans celebrate our veterans this weekend across the country for being will to serve by putting their lives on the line for all of us — so to we remember our police officers for doing the same.  And let us be clear that we stand with them and behind them, so that they may know with certainty that the people asking them to walk that thin blue line and protect us from evil will have the courage to defend law enforcement and not just allow them to do their job, but encourage it.

There are good guys and there are bad guys.  Let us choose — and celebrate — the good guys.  RIP, hero.
