Hurd Supports Smithsonian Museum to Highlight Women’s Contributions to America

Recently I proudly supported enshrining the incredible story of women and their collective role in United States history by voting with an overwhelming bipartisan majority of his colleagues in support of creating a women’s history museum as part of the Smithsonian Institution. As an original cosponsor I have long been a supporter of this initiative.

A national museum dedicated to the extraordinary history of American women will be the educational destination for millions of people. The Smithsonian will preserve and organize this great history in order to educate the public on the profound impact women have had on our nation. Women are pioneers and trailblazers across a multitude of industries and fields, and it is past time we honor these contributions. Establishing this museum will not only honor the past but also inspire the next generation of female leaders who will make their own history. I look forward to the continued progress of this project and its eventual opening.

The Smithsonian Women's History Museum Act (H.R. 1980) allocates funds and creates a commission to design and begin construction of a Smithsonian museum on the National Mall to honor and document women’s contributions to American history and culture.
