Gas-Loving Spiders Cause Mazda Car Recall
It happened to Mazda in 2011, and now it's happening again. Mazda Motor Corp has issued a recall for their Mazda6 sedans due to... spiders! The problem here is that this particular spider, the yellow sac spider, likes the smell of gasoline and may weave a web causing a clogged vent and excessive pressure in the fuel tank, which could lead to fires.
The Japanese automaker said Friday it is recalling 42,000 2010-2012 Mazda6 vehicles equipped with 2.5L engine, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This issue only affects Mazdas made at a plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Mazda said that by December, it confirmed nine cases of problems linked to a spider web.
So nine incidents of spider infestations is now causing the destruction of 42,000 spider homes? Where are all the environmentalists?
