I understand why the American people don’t trust Washington, I understand why they dismiss some border security promises as rhetoric.
That’s why my amendment, the RESULTS amendment, is so important, and it’s essential to accomplishing the goal of bipartisan immigration reform. As I said, right now, Congress and Washington have a major credibility problem.
I’m afraid the Gang of Eight bill -- in its current form -- would make this problem worse.
I applaud the signing of House Bill 5 into law. This legislation will allow for multiple pathways to a high school diploma, increased opportunities for vocational education at the high school level, and the beginning of a return to local control of education.

I was shocked and disappointed Wednesday when President Obama announced UN Ambassador Susan Rice as his pick for our nation’s top security post. At a time when this country is losing trust in its government with scandal after scandal, choosing the person who lied to the American people on national television, saying the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi was sparked by a non-existent YouTube video is, quite frankly, offensive. When there is a blaze, when there is a fire, when there is an explosion, when someone has an emergency medical problem, the firefighter--the EMT rush in. That is what they do. While others flee danger, the firefighter with sirens, red lights, horns, red and white trucks charge into the jaws and midst of danger. Sometimes the danger is overwhelming and firefighters are injured and some are killed.
Mexican troops have rescued 165 people who were purchased and kept as slaves by a Mexican drug cartel. The adults, children, and pregnant women had been kept in Mexico less than one mile from the U.S. border.
Yes it may be grandstanding. And yes we often frown on grandstanding. But there is a time when publicly speaking truth to the corrupt and greedy government workers is needed…no REQUIRED!

During a debate hosted by the Clear Lake Tea Party on the "Gang of Eight's" Immigration and Border Security Bill, Texans for Immigration Reduction and Enforcement President (TFIRE) Larry Korkmas attempted to deceive the highly patriotic audience by conflating the tragedy of the Boston Marathon terrorist attack with our nation's lax border security policies and illegal immigration. In fact, the Boston bombing has nothing to do with border security or illegally crossing our borders. Those people were admitted to the United States legally, one of them even became a United States citizen through naturalization. James Madison wrote, "If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." But the enemy the government is now fighting isn't just a foreign one, it appears to be fighting its own citizens. Madison underestimated the oppressive nature of a regime constantly at war.

The House Oversight & Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations will hold a field hearing in Dayton on Monday June 10th. The hearing, entitled “The Delphi Pension Bailout: Unequal Treatment of Retirees,” will take place at Sinclair Community College.
This field hearing will continue to highlight the shameful treatment of Delphi Salaried Retirees by the Obama Administration.
