Update: Governor Perry has Vetoed Texas SB 346

Statement from Texas Governor Rick Perry:

“Freedom of association and freedom of speech are two of our most important rights enshrined in the Constitution. My fear is that SB 346  would have a chilling effect on both of those rights

New Hampshire City Sues Good Samaritans

Issues:

Some Robin Hooders in Keene, New Hampshire, who feed parking meters for cars in danger of getting tickets, are being sued by the city. The story says they are harassing the officers who monitor the meters, though this aspect of the story is in dispute. What is not in dispute, I don’t think, is this: if the people in Keene were merely saying critical things to the officers, but not feeding the meters and depriving the city of revenue, there would be no suit. IRS Gets Security Against the Tea Party

Issues:

If this ain’t the pot calling the kettle black. The IRS wants security against the Tea Party.

How’s that for trying to “flip the script.” America’s legalized extortion division (aka the IRS) wants you to believe that they are the ones being intimidated.

The College Degree Myth: Part II

Issues:

The controversial conservative scholar Charles Murray raised the question of whether a liberal arts education should be abandoned altogether except for those with the leisure and resources to engage in learning as a manner of self-enlightenment rather than any practical matter such as finding a job or learning a marketable skill. Murray goes on to suggest, in his book Real Education, that perhaps we should declare the brick-and-mortar college obsolete for most purposes it now claims to serve.

Credible Criticism

Issues:

If the goal of the conservatives is to convince the independents and the low information voters that the progressive policies are flawed, conservatives must have credibility when they engage in policy debates. Further, I think that some conservatives are doing themselves and other conservatives a huge disservice by engaging in nick picking of issues that should be left alone. Tags:

While Democrats in state capitals such as Sacramento and Albany are busy patting themselves on the back for the great job they’re doing, a new report out today puts California and New York at the bottom of the list for economic performance and outlook, casting doubts about prospects for reducing unemployment creating economic opportunities for millions of Americans living in high tax states.

In “Rich States, Poor States,” the American Legislative Exchange Council and well-respected economist Art Laffer examine each state’s economic performance in areas such as GDP, employment, and domestic migration, all factors that are heavily influenced by state policies. Looking forward, they examine factors

Got Scandal?

Last week was rather interesting. Not just because of the various breaking scandals, either.

But more because the media at large covered Scandalpalooza. It was not just Fox News Channel or various (and smaller) conservative outlets. It was the mainstream media at large (aka MSM). Read more about Got Scandal?
