During the 2011 Legislative Session, a new law was passed with good intentions but with a devastating unintended consequence. The new law prohibiting the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) from issuing a Driver's License to anyone who could not prove their legal immigration status in the U.S. created perhaps a million unlicensed and uninsured drivers on our roadways. On the last day of the 2013 NRA Annual Meeting, I had the opportunity to sit down with board member Grover Norquist to discuss the NRA Board and the politics related to the 2nd Amendment. Norquist explained the makeup of the NRA Board and the roles the various people in the board play. We then went on to talk about the current political climate related to guns and the real issues related to gun violence. The White House released 100 pages of Benghazi-related e-mails this week that made it clear that the Obama Administration has misled the American people about the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist attack in Benghazi. The House currently has five standing committees investigating the events preceding and immediately following the attacks, which left four Americans dead. As we reported last month, on April 2, the United Nations General Assembly voted 153-4 to pass the Arms Trade Treaty, with the United States voting in favor and several countries abstaining. The vote in the General Assembly pushed the treaty process forward after negotiations twice failed to deliver on the goal of developing the treaty by consensus. This bill will protect reporters from being compelled to reveal their confidential news sources in federal court proceedings. Specifically, the bill would maintain the free flow of information to the public by providing conditions for the federally compelled disclosure of information by certain persons connected with the news media.
