Got Scandal?

Last week was rather interesting. Not just because of the various breaking scandals, either.

But more because the media at large covered Scandalpalooza. It was not just Fox News Channel or various (and smaller) conservative outlets. It was the mainstream media at large (aka MSM). Read more about Got Scandal?

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) asked Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate election integrity org True the Vote and its associated Tea Party group, King Street Patriots, immediately before the IRS and DOJ began targeting the group in June 2010.

Rep. Jackson Lee sent a letter to Holder which alleged that True the Vote was intimidating voters and their election monitors were crossing the line in unspecified “instances” of voter intimidation. The letter went on to

Government Workers Unhappy with Obama

Issues:

It would seem reality has finally, at long last, over-ridden the default setting for government workers' “Big Government-loving” worldview.

As shown in the latest issue of Governing:

State and local government officials increasingly disapprove of president Obama and fear the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a new Governing Index survey.

The College Degree Myth: Part I

Issues:

The myth that to succeed in life one needs a college degree has perhaps been the biggest myth bestowed upon a people since the idea that mortgage backed securities were a good investment.

The argument that a college degree increases earning power faces two problems:

First, correlation does not mean causation. Those who earn a college degree usually earn more money in their lifetimes than people without a college degree. However, that does not mean that financial gains are linked directly to the attainment of a degree. Those who receive college degrees usually start off in better place than those who do not.

Issues:

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) asked former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman yesterday to apologize for targeting Texans, and he refused. An excerpt of their exchange is below, and the full video can be found at the bottom of this post:

SEN. CORNYN: “Mr. Shulman, I wonder if you have any words of apology for my constituents and others who feel like the public trust has been violated by the IRS?”

MR. SHULMAN: “I’m deeply, deeply saddened by this whole set of events.

Voting for American Energy and Job Creation

Issues:

This week, the House will vote to clear the way for the Keystone XL pipeline. This pipeline will stretch from oil sands in Alberta, Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas, which could bring greater energy security to America by supplying us with 830,000 barrels of oil a day. It is a private-sector project would create 140,000 new jobs.

Texas CSCOPE Liberal Curriculum is DEAD and SB 1406 PASSED!

Issues:

Never underestimate the power of blogs and grassroots pressure from conservatives in Texas!

The TESCCC Board has announced that they will be ENDING all CSCOPE lessons.

CSCOPE is dead, but as a way to prevent it from coming back with no SBOE oversight, SB 1406 still needed to pass the Texas House.

Great News, SB 1406 PASSED THE HOUSE last night after it was announced that CSCOPE lessons were being pulled! Read more about Texas CSCOPE Liberal Curriculum is DEAD and SB 1406 PASSED!

An Administration Plagued By Scandal

You know things are bad for an Administration when members of their own party come out against them. Well that’s exactly what happened to the Obama Administration last week.

They can no longer hide from the problems that come from too much government and an overreach of power. If you tuned into the President’s news conference last Thursday, you heard members of the press link the subpoena of Associated Press phone lines to illegal activities undertaken by members of the Nixon Administration. This was a comparison I made when Attorney General Holder was questioned last week by me and other members of the House Judiciary Committee. In my opinion, this massive intrusion
