Rep. Roy issues statement upon Mike Johnson's election as Speaker of the House

On Wednesday, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement:

I am proud to congratulate my friend, Mike Johnson, on becoming the 56th Speaker of the House of Representatives. A fellow conservative and a man of deep Christian faith, Mike believes in this country, our Constitution, American values, and the American way of life — and he isn’t afraid to fight for them. 

Over the past weeks of intense debate and deliberation, he has proven himself the right man for the right time — the man capable of uniting this conference so we can move forward and do what the American people sent us here to do. 

It is time to get back to work putting an end to the myriad Democrat-created crises plaguing this country and its citizens. Our country is under siege from a wide open border, spending is out of control while inflation runs rampant, and our federal bureaucracy has been brazenly weaponized against everyday Americans. Our enemies are currently emboldened by a weak White House and a woke Pentagon, and our key ally, Israel, is under assault.  

That said, I plan to hold Speaker Johnson just as accountable to winning on those priorities as I did Speaker McCarthy.  We must get started on doing the job the American people elected us to do. 

It is time to lead. It is time to fight. It is time for the American people to win again. We have a solemn duty upon us and a great task ahead of us; I look forward to continuing that work with Speaker Johnson and the rest of my colleagues. Onward.
