President Wants to Max Out Credit Card by Another $1 Trillion

I applaud the new Department of Defense guidance issued by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel that directs civilian DoD employees furloughed due to the government shutdown to return to work beginning this week. Secretary Hagel’s guidance comes just days after nearly 70 member of the House of Representatives, including Congressman Farenthold, wrote a letter to the Department of Defense and the Office of Management and Budget asking why DoD civilian employees were issued furloughed notices during the government shutdown, as that was not in accordance with H.R. 3210, the Pay Our Military Act, which the President signed into law Monday, October 2nd.

This is great news for the civilian employees at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and across the country, who were wrongfully furloughed. My colleagues and I passed the Pay Our Military Act to ensure those employees who support our military services were not affected by Washington politics. When they were issued furlough notices last Tuesday, I knew that was not in accordance with the bill we passed, and I’m glad Secretary Hagel took that into consideration and reversed course.” To read the full DoD guidance, click here.
