Texas Executions

Issues:

Tommy Lynn Sells was executed on Thursday, April 3 and Ramiro Hernandez-Llanas was executed on Wednesday, April 9 in Huntsville, Texas. The fact that these two executions made national headlines caught my attention. Judge Vanessa Diane Gilmore, a US District Judge

POE HONORS SHERIFF ADRIAN GARCIA ON CAPITOL HILL

Issues:

Congressman Jim Costa and I joined members of the bipartisan Congressional Victims’ Rights Caucus to honor this year’s outstanding individuals that have gone above and beyond to helping victims of crime. Costa and I cofounded the bipartisan Congressional Victims’ Rights Caucus in 2005. This year, I awarded Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia with the Suzanne McDaniel Memorial Award for Public Awareness for his service to Harris County, specifically on the issue of combatting Human Trafficking

Houstonians are lucky to have the finest Sheriff in the nation protecting us. Sheriff Garcia is a lawman who has dedicated his life to making Houston safer, keeping criminals off the

Ted Cruz's Anti-Terrorist Ambassador Bill Heads to Obama's 'Pen'

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill originally pushed by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) that will prohibit any country from appointing a known terrorist to be an ambassador from that country to the United Nations. Sen. Cruz and House sponsor Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) called on President Obama to sign the bill into law.

In a rare showing of bi-partisan support, the bill received unanimous support in both the House and the Senate. Read more about Ted Cruz's Anti-Terrorist Ambassador Bill Heads to Obama's 'Pen'

IRS Scandal Update

Issues:

Over the past several months, the House of Representatives has investigated the IRS’s intentional targeting of conservative groups and political opponents of the president. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Congressman Darrell Issa, has worked diligently to pursue the truth and found that former IRS Exempt Organizations division Director Lois Lerner played a central role in the scandal. Austin Outsider Hopes To Pop The Austin Bubble In Race For Williams’ Senate Seat

The chatter around the Capitol so far about the race for the Texas Senate seat formerly held by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, has primarily focused on the two House members in the contest: Rep. Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands and Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe. But, a lesser-known candidate by the name of Gordy Bunch, a successful businessman and a member of the equivalent of the city council in The Woodlands, says he’s working hard to get his supporters out and “get ‘er done” in the May 10 special election.

Bunch, who was first elected to The Woodlands Township Board of Directors two years ago, says he’s been able to use his business experience to help create one of the best-running governments in the state. Indeed, The Woodlands has seen taxes decrease and debt has been paid down while services have been expanded.

Lois Lerner, You're So Smug!

Remember Lois Lerner? Yeah, the lady who was at the head of the IRS and the one who allegedly started targeting Tea Party and Conservative groups from having tax-exempt status in hopes to halt their progress in raising up conservative candidates and taking issues to the streets. Congressman Neugebauer Votes for Plan to Balance Budget

I released the following statement after the House passed Rep. Paul Ryan’s 2015 budget proposal, the Path to Prosperity. The budget cuts spending by $5.1 trillion over time, and balances in ten years.

Our country can’t go on spending more than we take in. That’s not fair to American families who work hard to balance their own budgets and pay their taxes. We owe it to them to make responsible decisions. Read more about Congressman Neugebauer Votes for Plan to Balance Budget

Senator Cornyn Honors the Civil Rights Act

I issued the following statement honoring the fiftieth anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, which is being celebrated at this week’s Civil Rights Summit at the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, Texas:

With the signing of the Civil Rights Act nearly 50 years ago, President Johnson brought together Americans of all walks of life to make a solemn, public vow to at long last uphold the work of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Hector P. Garcia, Barbara Jordan and the many civil rights leaders who

Misclassification Hearing is Set in the Texas House

Issues:

A Texas House Committee has set a hearing on the issue of worker misclassification and what more the state may need to do to combat the problem that is particularly rampant in the construction industry.

The House Business and Industry Committee will take testimony on the implementation of a limited crackdown that was signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry last year. The hearing is slated for Tuesday, April 22 at the state capitol.

Here is the official announcement, which says the panel of lawmakers will be looking into

Who Says The Left is the Party Of Science?

Most recently, Mother Jones produced a study by the Union of Concerned Scientists that if you were a Fox listener, you were misinformed on climate change because we all know that man is responsible for climate change and the world is about to go into overdrive in a heat wave. The problem with this survey is that the latest studies have repudiated much of the alarmist charges about climate change, and it is Mother Jones and the Union of Concerned Scientists who are wrong.
