Capitalism Wins in NYC

Issues:

For the time being, capitalism has won a battle that should have never been fought. Nanny Bloomberg’s 16-oz soda limitation is no more.

An appeals court ruled Tuesday that New York City’s Board of Health exceeded its legal authority and acted unconstitutionally when it tried to put a size limit on soft drinks served in city restaurants. Read more about Capitalism Wins in NYC

Police: Because of ‘Free Staters,’ We Need an Armored Vehicle

Issues:

The Free Staters in New Hampshire are among the express reasons given for why the Concord police department is applying to purchase an armored vehicle.

The Free Staters, who are nonviolent, are lumped into the category of “domestic terrorism.” For not wanting anyone to use violence.

The relevant portion of the application reads: Read more about Police: Because of ‘Free Staters,’ We Need an Armored Vehicle

San Antonio Christians need not apply

For the last few months, the San Antonio City Council has been considering a “non-discrimination ordinance” in which they pretty much discriminate against the First Amendment rights of free speech or free exercise of religion. If passed, it would prevent anyone in the City of San Antonio from running for office or being appointed to a citizens’ committee – or from holding office if elected – who advocates for traditional marriage or speaks or writes about their religious belief that homosexuality is a sin.

Justice for James: Black Cop Shoots Unarmed White Veteran in Orange, TX over Racial Slur

Issues:

Justice for Trayvon Martin? How about Justice for James Whitehead? James Whitehead was a white veteran who had recently come back from war. Orange, TX Police Officer Robert Arnold (who has a history of violence) shot and killed unarmed James Whitehead. Arnold is black. Arnold was not in his uniform and did not have a badge. Whitehead got into a verbal altercation about a bad part for his vehicle. James Whitehead did not

Medicaid Expansion: money, politics, and plain talk

Ross Ramsey of the Texas Tribune only sees the political debate behind both HB2′s restrictions on abortion and Medicaid expansion.

The state didn’t expand its Medicaid program, and you’ll still find legislators across the spectrum thinking about the consequences, good or bad.

This summer’s debate on abortion restrictions turned entirely on politics. It wasn’t about the money.

Texas' "Good Conservative Budget"

Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Senator Tommy Williams has been plugging the “good conservative budget … we can all be proud of” that the Texas legislature passed and Governor Perry left largely intact. Senator Williams claims with this budget, “we are living within our means while funding our priorities.”

Is this really the case?

In his January budget proposal, one of the three priorities identified by Governor Perry was to fund “essential water and transportation infrastructure.” He also laid out 5 principles for the “Texas Budget Compact," one of which was to preserve a strong Rainy Day Fund. The Governor concluded saying

Weiner Still Sexting and Wife Standing by her Philandering Man

Issues:

I’m not sure which is more disgusting. Weiner and his perverted sexting obsession or his ridiculous wife standing by his side as he publicly humiliates her by talking about his latest philandering scandal.

What is it with women who think they can’t succeed in life without riding the coat tails of a man, no matter how nasty and perverted those coat tails happen to be? Hillary Clinton is another prime example. How many years did she stand by her man as he publicly carried on one affair after another?

So You Want to Keep Your Vagina To Yourself?

Issues:

Well, well, well.  The state of Texas has been in the news quite a bit as of late, hasn't it?  Some, but not all, of the attention was on the upcoming 2014 mid-term elections and who is running for what, or what I like to refer to it as political "silly season."  The majority of the attention we've been getting nationally is from the age-old abortion debate.  Pro-lifers and pro-choicers flocked to the Texas state capitol building to defend each of their stances on the now infamous HB2 that was just recently signed into law by Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Oversight Leaders Demand Delphi Salaried Pension Documents, Consider Subpoena

Issues:

WASHINGTON –Tuesday, leaders on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee pressed Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew to release documents related to the Delphi pension scandal and raised the possibility of using the compulsory process if the long-sought documents are not finally produced by August 5th.

Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Subcommittee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) and senior Committee member Mike Turner (R-Ohio) sent letters
