Eighteen of my House colleagues and I toured our Southern Border recently. We heard success stories about interagency cooperation in the San Diego section, the frustration of ranchers in Arizona, and concerns about another seasonal surge of unaccompanied children in the Rio Grande. To coincide with the National Salute to Veterans Week (February 9-15th), I am organizing my annual “Valentines for Vets” outreach program. Teachers and students in Collin County are encouraged to create Valentines that will be picked up by staff during the week of February 1st. This past weekend, I joined a group of my colleagues to inspect critical areas of the southwest border and see first-hand how we can best achieve security and defeat any threats to our nation. The tour took us to McAllen, Texas, as well as spots along the Arizona-Mexico border and the California-Mexico border. While the President continues to ignore this crisis, our porous border remains a threat to the security of individuals and families in the 19th District of Texas. Last week, I introduced H.R. 428, the Export American Natural Gas Act of 2015. This bipartisan bill would expedite the Department of Energy approval process for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Thousands of pro-life conservatives converged on the Texas Capitol with Texas’ First Lady Cecilia Abbott on Saturday to show support for the passage of more pro-life legislation. The Texas Legislature is just beginning the 84th session and pro-life supporters are expecting more from this highly conservative legislature. I recently re-introduced legislation that would expand Interstate 69 to include Texas State Highway 44. This bill would designate State Highway 44 as a future segment of I-69, known as the “44 to 69 Act.” Under this legislation, both the city of Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi International Airport would be included in the I-69 interstate highway system.
