Congressman Farenthold Checks Up On Our Local VA Clinics

Last week, I visited the VA Outpatient Clinics in Corpus Christi and Victoria to get the real story on wait times, quality of service, and other issues from local Veterans and VA staff.

As you may have read, the Corpus Christi clinics were among those subject to additional investigation for long wait times. We have had far too many requests for service come into my office from veterans in this area. The VA must get on track and provide prompt quality care. Sen. Cruz Challenges Senate Democrats on Bill to Repeal First Amendment

Last week, I spoke in the Judiciary Subcommittee on The Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights hearing in opposition to the Democrats’ proposed constitutional amendment to repeal the First Amendment and restrict the individual right to free speech.

I have more faith in the Bill of Rights than I do any elected official. Read more about Sen. Cruz Challenges Senate Democrats on Bill to Repeal First Amendment

Congressman Neugebauer Praises Bill to Fund Strong National Defense

I released the following statement praising the passage of the FY2015 Defense Appropriations bill. The bill passed the House yesterday by a vote of 340-73.

This Week in Washington

On Thursday I managed the rule on the House floor for the Customer Protection and End User Relief Act. This legislation would reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission while protecting end users like farmers, ranchers, and other small businesses by eliminating burdensome and unnecessary regulations. I believe that we need to get Washington out of the way and give businesses the opportunity to grow and expand. Read more about This Week in Washington

Sen. Cruz Files S. 2510 to Prohibit Guantanamo Transfers Until Administration Justifies Release of ‘Taliban 5’

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-New Hampshire, Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, and I have filed legislation to temporarily halt further transfers or releases for detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Following the controversial prisoner swap the Obama Administration made earlier this month, resulting in the release of the Taliban 5 terrorists, further releases should be off the table until President Obama can explain how this swap was in the United States’ national security interests. The Vaporizing of Two Years of IRS Emails

Issues:

Crisis: IRS emails have vaporized.

Where, oh where have the emails gone? Where, oh, where can they be? In another Friday evening news dump, the administration announced that 2 years of Lois Lerner’s emails have vanished. Poof, gone.

That is not all. Today, we learned that the emails of six other prominent IRS officials involved in targeting conservatives have disappeared. Poof, gone. Isn’t that an oddly convenient disappearance?

IRC To President Obama: Deploy National Guard To The Border

Issues:

This week, along with the Executive Board Members of the Immigration Reform Caucus (IRC), I sent a letter to President Obama calling on the Administration to immediately issue a public statement that the immigration laws of our country will be enforced and to make at least 2,000 National Guard troops available for deployment to the US/Mexico Border.

The surge of foreign nationals on the Texas border is a direct result of this Administration’s

We Need To Protect Our People And Defend Our National Security Interests

First and foremost we have to do everything possible to make sure all Americans in Iraq are secure and not swept up in a Sunni-Shiite civil war. We have more than 2,000 people in the country, and given the volatility of the situation, we need a plan to get them out safely and expeditiously - now. Likewise, we need to be mindful that the up to 275 additional Marines that President Obama has informed Congress he may deploy to conduct security at the embassy in Baghdad do not become isolated targets of terrorism.
