Sharing With Veterans

Last Week, I hosted the Annual Coastal Bend Veterans Summit in Corpus Christi. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss veteran’s issues with a group a veterans that spanned 7 decades of service. It continues to be clear to me that the VA is not the resource it should be for our veterans.

The Oil and Natural Gas Boom Continues

The recent uptick in American energy production is one of those economic miracles not thought possible a decade ago. Oil and gas production will reduce the United States' dependence on imports, and we may be become an energy exporter, something that will strengthen our international status, which is at a low point under the present Administration's policy.

Natural Resources Hearing on ESA Reform

Last week, I told you about legislation I’ve introduced to reform the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to make it work better for landowners, communities, and species. The law is in need of reform—in the 40 years since it was enacted, only 2% of species have ever recovered to the point where they can be removed from the list. The ESA also imposes costly federal requirements on landowners, when there are more practical, voluntary conservation solutions that would work just as well to preserve species. It’s also problematic that instead of making listing decisions in a transparent manner,

Cornyn Introduces Bill To Protect Taxpayers From IRS Targeting

I issued the following statement after introducing The Eliminating Improper & Abusive IRS Audits Act of 2014 to provide further accountability and greater taxpayer protection against IRS abuse:

As we approach the deadline for this tax season, Americans are more skeptical than ever of the IRS after the gross violations of public trust that have come to light over the past year. Read more about Cornyn Introduces Bill To Protect Taxpayers From IRS Targeting

The Amazing Koch Brothers

If someone would tell you a decade ago that two big Republican donors who support same-sex marriage and non-interventionist foreign policy would become the most vilified Republicans by the left, I would say, really? I remember a discussion with a young Democrat in 2008 who said if the Republicans would simply leave the social issues alone and concentrate on budget restraints, he might consider being a Republican. Guess what,

Cleaning Up Our Beaches

Issues:

Yesterday I met with U.S. Coast Guard Captain Ogyrdziak and others involved with cleaning the beaches after the March 22 Texas City Y bunker oil spill. The bulk of the oil came ashore along the environmentally sensitive Aransas Wildlife Refuge, but tar balls were found as far south as the 4 wheel drive area of the Padre Island National Seashore. March Update from Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri

Issues:

I am happy to report that March was one of the most productive months at the RPT in the 4 years I have been Chairman. The staff and I made progress on multiple projects. Much of our time these days is spent on the convention, which is rapidly approaching. We meet on a weekly basis to go over progress on such things as registration, hotels, speakers, events, the gala, volunteers, etc. Putting on a convention for approximately 10,000 people is a monumental task. Fortunately we have made a lot of progress selling booths and looks like we are on course to surpass the total from the last convention. Likewise, we've got a large portion of the program sold out, and that too looks like it will equal or exceed last time. The President's Pep Rally Speech on Obamacare

Issues:

The head cheerleader in charge held a pep rally this week. Standing in front of a boisterous pep squad of bureaucrats from HHS and Democrats who support ObamaCare, the President declared his mission accomplished.

However, not there and not invited were millions who had lost their plans and lost their doctors that the President promised that they could keep. Many citizens have seen their health insurance

Pete Sessions' Hill Report: Save American Workers Act

On Thursday the House approved H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act, which repeals ObamaCare’s misguided 30-hour rule. This rule redefines “full time” employment as 30 hours per week instead of 40. Due to the looming employer mandate, businesses are reducing workers’ hours to 29 hours per week or less to avoid ObamaCare’s high costs and taxes – leaving millions of middle and low-wage workers with less take home pay.

At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed or underemployed, I believe we should focus on getting Washington out of the way to promote job growth and economic prosperity instead of higher taxes.

Gas-Loving Spiders Cause Mazda Car Recall

Issues:

It happened to Mazda in 2011, and now it's happening again. Mazda Motor Corp has issued a recall for their Mazda6 sedans due to... spiders! The problem here is that this particular spider, the yellow sac spider, likes the smell of gasoline and may weave a web causing a clogged vent and excessive pressure in the fuel tank, which could lead to fires.
