Brady: "American Energy Dominance Should be Celebrated"

Today, I released the following statement after voting against anti-energy legislation in the House of Representatives:

 In Texas, curtailing offshore drilling activities would negatively impact the hundreds of thousands in the Greater Houston area who work for the oil and gas industry and would have adverse, long term consequences on our state’s economic well-being.

Regulating offshore drilling practices will also threaten America’s national security by increasing our energy dependence on hostile foreign states.

America’s ability to produce and export our natural resources has provided countless jobs for hardworking Americans, kept energy prices low for American families and businesses, and enhanced our overall national security. American energy dominance is something to be celebrated, and introducing measures to prematurely curtail America’s access to oil and natural gas resources poses a large threat to the economic and environmental progress made under the Trump Administration.

 Background: This week, the House of Representatives voted on three anti-energy bills, including;

  • H.R. 205, which passed the House 248-180, would permanently extend the drilling moratorium in the Houston region’s Eastern Gulf.
  • H.R. 1941, which passed the House 238-189, would block oil and gas lease sales in the Atlantic and Pacific planning areas in any future leasing program.
  • H.R. 1146, which passed the House 225-193, wouldrepeal Section 200001 of Public Law 15-17, eliminating the authorization of an oil and gas development program in the 1002 Area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
