ImmigrationWorks USA held a national conference call to discuss President Obama's announcement of an executive action that will grant work permits to up to 4 million unauthorized immigrants – primarily parents of U.S. citizens and permanent residents – who will now be allowed to remain in the U.S. legally. What Do Voters Think of Climate Change?

Issues:

Americas Majority Foundation, an organization that I work with, held several polls over the past three months, including post-election polls. In August, the foundation polled 1100 Hispanics, and in a national post-election poll, polled 1000 whites, 1000 blacks and 1000 Hispanics. Finally we polled black and Hispanic voters in New Mexico, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Illinois: states where America's PAC was involved. (We polled 3500 Hispanic voters in three states: Illinois, Wisconsin and New Mexico, and 2800 black voters in two states: Wisconsin and North Carolina.)  Read more about What Do Voters Think of Climate Change?

Special Election for Texas Senate Seat Turns Nasty

Issues:

The following story originally appeared on The Quorum Report.

BRENHAM – The mad dash to succeed Comptroller-Elect Glenn Hegar in the Texas Senate has turned quite negative in the final days leading up to this Saturday’s special election. The perceived frontrunner, Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, has sought to create a sense of inevitability through high-profile endorsements and has focused her message on border security. Gov. Perry Announces E-Verify Executive Order for State Agencies

From the Office of Rick Perry - Gov. Rick Perry today highlighted the ongoing need for the state's border security operations, and called on Congress to quickly pass a bill to provide the resources necessary to secure our southern border. In the absence of adequate federal resources, the governor reiterated Texas' commitment to using all available tools to enforce the law, and announced an executive order directing state agencies to use E-Verify to check the employment eligibility of current and prospective employees. New, Legally Binding Treaty Emerges on First Day of UN’s Lima Climate Conference

Issues:

At a United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meeting in Lima, Peru, delegates from 196 parties are drafting a new legally binding treaty to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol that is to be completed next year in Paris, France. At the outset of negotiations, environmentalists are calling for the new treaty to mandate a cap and tax on greenhouse gas emissions to go into effect by 2020. And to eliminate the use of fossil fuels altogether by 2050. Read more about New, Legally Binding Treaty Emerges on First Day of UN’s Lima Climate Conference

Republican Party of Texas Chairman’s November Update

Issues:

Republican Party of Texas - The big news for November was our crushing defeat of the Democratic ticket. To paraphrase the popular song "All I Do is Win", ALL THE TEXAS GOP DOES IS WIN, WIN, WIN!

All the reasons that the Republican ticket totally crushed the Democratic ticket would take several pages to write. The Democrats, and particularly Battleground Texas, made many obvious errors and miscalculations this year, while the RPT, Governor-elect Abbott, and the rest of the statewide ticket’s battle plan worked to near perfection. Rep. Farenthold Joins Local Food Banks in Effort to Combat Hunger

Issues:

This holiday season I am joining with local food banks in Victoria and Corpus Christi to help drive out hunger in the two South Texas communities. Through December 17, 2014 folks in both Corpus Christi and Victoria will be able to drop off canned food donations at my district offices.

Looking Ahead

Issues:

The new Congress and Republican Senate will be sworn in on January, 6, 2015, but until then, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. The government needs to be funded beyond December 11th, certain tax extenders need to be addressed, we must continue our work fighting against ISIL in the Middle East, and we need to push back against the President’s immigration executive order that went so far out of bounds.

When we begin the 114th Congress in January, we’ll have a bigger Republican majority in the House, and a Republican majority in the Senate. That’s great news for fiscal responsibility, government accountability, and free market policies.
