Pulse of Texas: Obamacare

Issues:

The health of the Nation is now in the hands of government. Let's see how it is working out for people who work for a living. Many Americans are feeling the pain of government health care, and here is what some of them have sent me from my congressional district in Texas.

House Approves Bill to Combat Lawsuit Abuse

The House of Representatives approved a bill yesterday I introduced to reduce frivolous lawsuits that plague our legal system. Introduced in July, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act (H.R. 2655) imposes mandatory sanctions on lawyers who file meritless suits in federal court. The House passed the bill by a vote of 228-195.

Lawsuit abuse is common in America because the lawyers who bring these frivolous cases

Sen. Cornyn Statement On National Adoption Month

Issues:

I salute the foster and adoptive parents who have opened their homes and their hearts to children in Texas and across the country and become not only their caregivers but also their heroes. In honor of National Adoption Month, I encourage those with the means to do so to consider adopting one of the 400,000 children in foster care today. There is no replacement for the role of concerned, caring parents in the life of a young person. Read more about Sen. Cornyn Statement On National Adoption Month

Congressman Smith to Introduce Bill to Bar EPA from Basing Regulations on Secret Science

Issues:

At a hearing today before the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I pressed EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy about the agency’s continued use of undisclosed data to justify the Obama administration’s billion dollar regulatory agenda. Earlier this year, I issued a subpoena for data used by the EPA to support the agency’s upcoming air quality regulations. This was the Committee’s first subpoena in 21 years. One of the rules purportedly supported by the data –

Houston is Poised to Pass Precedent-Setting Wage Theft Ordinance

Issues:

Update: Due to an error on the Houston City Secretary's website, this agenda item was erroneously listed as passed, but is instead tabled until next week. We regret the error but continue to support its passage. The article has been modified to correct the current status of this ordinance.

Three months ago, TexasGOPVote reported that the City of Houston was looking at passing an ordinance to crack down on city contractors who engage in the unethical and illegal practice of wage theft from their workers. City Council is poised to pass an ordinance that is being called "precedent-setting" by supporters of the effort to stop wage theft. Houston would be the first Texas city to pass such an ordinance.   Read more about Houston is Poised to Pass Precedent-Setting Wage Theft Ordinance

Krauthammer And Other Luminaries Were Wrong

Issues:

Charles Krauthammer appeared with Bill O’Reilly Tuesday night. Krauthammer is obviously very bright, literate and politically studied, and recent appearances have shown him to be a brave, stable and delightful individual. If that sounds respectful and admiring, it is meant to. I honestly feel that way, and it is only appropriate to say before you detail your conviction about how he is mistaken. He repeated the insistence of so many Republican political calculators that Republicans are divided mostly by tactics, not by ideology or objectives. And I believe they are in great

Iran is Feeling the Pain of Sanctions

Issues:

Last year, Irans net exports of petroleum dropped to their lowest level since 1990. Its GDP has dropped for the first time in 20 years.

The Iranians are feeling the pain of sanctions. Now the Iranians say that they will negotiate if the sanctions are reduced. Reducing sanctions without verifying that Tehran is abandoning, not just freezing, its nuclear weapons program is misguided and reckless.

The U.S. is moving toward an appeasement deal with Iran, and Iran is giving up nothing.

Last Thursday, I met with Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, who called this deal to reduce sanctions with Iran a "bad deal, a very bad deal. Read more about Iran is Feeling the Pain of Sanctions

Exclusive: Senator John Cornyn Speaks Out To Defend Border Patrol Agents

Issues:

The U.S. Border Patrol has come under an unprecedented level of attack as of late from predominantly left-of-center open-borders advocates. U.S. Senator John Cornyn wasted no time in speaking up for the men and women serving as Border Patrol agents.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Senator Cornyn discussed a variety of threats facing the Border Patrol agents themselves and their ability to properly perform their duties of keeping our borders as secure as possible. UN’s “Climate Change” to Transform the Economic Structure of the World

The United Nations’ climate change meeting began Monday in Warsaw, Poland, to discuss “global warming,” but when the globe stopped warming 16 years ago, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was forced to reveal its real agenda.

Last year in Doha, Qatar, the treaty’s Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres told the world that the purpose of the UNFCCC is a “complete transformation of the economic structure of the world.” The scheme is to use the eternally unpredictable weather that affects everyone to manipulate a transfer of wealth from rich to poor nations, which in turn degrades every nation’s standard of living.
