Houston City Elections - Are Conservatives Serious About Keeping Texas Red?

Turn Houston RedThe City of Houston's city elections are coming up quickly. This election gives conservatives an opportunity to send a serious message to Battleground Texas that we are intent on keeping Texas red and will take action to do so. What is the action we can take now? Get out and vote!

Houston is a fine example of what happens to local government when left to years of liberal control and run-away spending. Our pension programs are driving the city's balance sheet to looking more like Detroit than Houston. It is getting to where you need a four-wheel drive vehicle in order to safely navigate our streets. Police response times have moved well beyond critical as our dwindling number of officers are continuously stretched thinner and thinner. Mayor Parker and City Controller Ron Green are spending money like their role model, Barack Obama. Read more about Houston City Elections - Are Conservatives Serious About Keeping Texas Red?

SHOCK: Child Sex Offender Block Walking w/ Battleground Texas and is Young Democrat President

Issues:

Update: Campus Reform has picked up the story and has discovered tweets from the Director of BattleGround Texas, Jenn Brown, praising this sex offender Young Democrat President for his work for Battleground Texas

Alert! After receiving a tip, I have confirmed that convicted child sex offender Billy Johnson is the President of the University of Texas-Pan American Young Democrats and is helping to register voters for Battleground Texas. Battleground Texas is an organization created by Barack Obama's political machine to try to turn Texas into a blue, Democrat state. You heard me right, a convicted child sex offender (indecency with an 8-year-old girl) is wandering around to random young people, even in areas with children. When Battleground Texas or a Democrat organization approaches you, as the bed intruder guy says, "Hide your kids." Who's With Cruz To Fight For America?

Even if it is an ironclad certainty, as they say, that Obama would veto a Continuing Resolution that defunded Obamacare if Republicans held united and forced one through with some vulnerable Democrats in The Senate, I don’t think that should be a bad thing. If you force them to, most will say that if Reid or Obama balked and we saw some services suspended, then we would lose the political argument, be blamed for the suspension (shutdown, though they would quickly pass funding of vital particulars, Democrats might well staunch this too), and be damaged in the 2010 election. But first, why do you think you would be more respected for slinking away from this unprecedentedly important matter, especially when the law is unpopular even to traditionally Democrat groups? Senator Ted Cruz on Defunding Obamacare

Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz

Don't Fund It!

Senator Ted Cruz has followed through with his promise to lead the charge in defunding ObamaCare. The House, with a 230 – 189 margin, voted to defund ObamaCare. One Republican voted nay, Representative Scott Rigell from Virginia. It seems his district voted heavily for Obama. The two Democrats who voted with the Republicans were Jim Matheson of Utah and Mike McIntyre from North Carolina. Read more about Senator Ted Cruz on Defunding Obamacare

State Senator Joan Huffman Speaks Out on Human Trafficking in Houston and Texas' Response

Human TraffickingHuman trafficking is a horrible problem in this country. As we have reported many times on TexasGOPVote, Texas is one of the worst places for this issue, and Houston is frequently recognized as the national hub for human trafficking and slavery. Recently Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott released a human trafficking prevention manual for the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force. “As our experience has demonstrated, human trafficking can only be stopped through the coordinated efforts of many organizations at all levels – local, state, and federal as well as public and private," Abbott said speaking to the Task Force. Benghazi Update from Congressman Pete Sessions

Issues:

As you may know, there are several House committees investigating the Administration’s inadequate response to the September 11, 2012, attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. Collectively, these five committees have the expertise, necessary resources, legal means, and security clearances to process information and documents from every aspect of this investigation. You can view an interim progress report of their work here.

Congressman Ted Poe on Defunding Obamacare

Today, I was pleased to support a Continuing Resolution that will keep the government open, get Washington spending under control and protect Americans from the harmful impact of Obamacare. Importantly, this bill permanently and fully defunds the unaffordable Obamacare. The House has stood up and acted; it’s time for the Senate to do the same. Smitherman REJECTS Budget Increase - Paxton, Branch APPROVE Increases - Texas Attorney General Race

In 2013, Texas Attorney General candidate Barry Smitherman REJECTED a budget increase for his personal government office while candidates Ken Paxton and Dan Branch APPROVED a budget increase for their personal government offices.

Families in Texas are having to tighten their belts. Gas is not going down, health care expenses are skyrocketing, appraisals and local taxes are rising. Texans have to be more conservative and cannot just vote to give ourselves more money for our household. We expect the government to tighten its belt too. House Votes to Defund Obamacare in the Continuing Resolution

I released the following statement after the House passed H.J.Res. 59, a Continuing Resolution (CR) to defund Obamacare and fund government operations.

My constituents in West Texas have been very clear: they don’t want their hard-earned money funding a broken and harmful health care mandate. The legislation we passed today is a direct result of my efforts as an original co-sponsor of a conservative bill to fully defund Obamacare while reducing government spending. This is a win for us. We moved the ball down the field by insisting that the CR include a no-gimmicks vote to defund Obamacare. Read more about House Votes to Defund Obamacare in the Continuing Resolution
