For nearly three years, we have been bringing you information about the problem of unethical companies that misclassify workers as independent contractors when, in reality, they are employees. They do this for a variety of reasons including getting an unfair competitive advantage over legitimate companies who properly classify their workers as employees or, in many cases, they use it to bypass the I-9 process for verifying that people are legal to work in this country. House Republicans have solutions for getting Americans back to work, one of them being to fully repeal the President’s damaging, unaffordable health care law. While national attention focuses on Republicans fighting for unborn babies in Austin, TX, one Texas Republican State Representative, Sarah Davis, is fighting against Republicans and trying to kill the pro-life bill. The worst part is that she is funded by the Texas GOP! Demand the Texas GOP to STOP funding her.

Along with all the patriotic joy and hoopla of fireworks, family barbeques and parades that will mark the celebration of America’s 237th birthday this year, most of us also pause to honor the courage of our Founders who wrote and proclaimed the Declaration of Independence. You can read the text of the Declaration here.

That Declaration was and is one of the most consequential and profound documents in all of the world’s history. It was a civilization-altering statement that all of us have rights from our Creator. These are rights, they explained, that belong to all of us — innately and absolutely — regardless of what any government says.

From the Declaration of Independence: "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."

Have we, as Americans, lost the commitment to make this kind of pledge? It is time for all of us to stand and put some skin in the game. Be bold and express your values, even if it is uncomfortable or you are afraid it might bring you ridicule or harm.

As our nation marks its 237th birthday, I join in celebrating this Fourth of July. As Texans, the independent spirit that defines this country is rooted in our very being. I remain deeply grateful for our forefathers who fought to create our great nation, and for the brave men and women who continue that fight today. I released the following statement regarding the Obama Administration's announcement that it will delay the employer mandate until 2015.

The Administration's announcement highlights what Texans have known since the day ObamaCare was rammed through Congress – this monstrous and unaffordable law is bad for business, bad for our economy, and bad for jobs. If the Administration is incapable of fully implementing ObamaCare after three years, then it is clearly too complex to force upon families and small businesses.

As a direct result of ObamaCare being signed into law, one in five small businesses have laid off workers while two in five have stopped hiring.
