Obama Administration Releases Criminal Illegal Aliens in Advance of Sequestration - Incompetence or Propaganda?

Has ICE initiated a new catch and release programThis week the Obama Administration released illegal immigrants who were being held in custody pending deportation hearings in advance of the looming sequestration. Is this just another propaganda move to put pressure on Congress to act? Or is it yet another example of the sheer incompetence of this Administration. Remember, no budgets have been cut as of this time. Even after the sequestration, there is no cut to the federal budget, only a cut to the rate of increase of the budget. So why are they releasing prisoners from jail? Read more about Obama Administration Releases Criminal Illegal Aliens in Advance of Sequestration - Incompetence or Propaganda?

Celebrating Political Diversity During Black History Month: Meet Scott Turner

Issues:

This is the second in a short series of articles designed to offer balance in our celebration of black history month, by honoring a few black conservatives who are making a difference.

Meet Scott Turner, a first term Republican Texas State Representative, representing District 33 which encompasses all of Rockwall and parts of Collin counties. I interviewed Scott over this past weekend, to hear about life in Texas’ 83rd legislative session, and to find out more about this soft-spoken, confident yet humble, successful man. Celebrating Political Diversity During Black History Month

Issues:

Before Black History month in America ends, and in light of the fact that so much of the 2013 celebration honors left-wing African-Americans, this short series of articles offers praise for some truly brave Americans---black Republican and conservative leaders.

Rand Paul gives up the BLING

Issues:

Look America, no bling. No rings, no earrings, no tats, no bracelets or watches, at least that I can see. Just Rand Paul, one of the smartest guys in politics.

He’s not our lord and savior, nor is he America’s daddy, but Rand Paul impresses me more and more each day. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is! Rand Paul is DO, where most politicians are TALK. Obama could take a lesson from this man, and so could most other politicians. Read more about Rand Paul gives up the BLING

Lone Star College Board asks, How Much is Too Much Debt

Issues:

Last Wednesday, nine members of the Texas Patriots PAC attended a Lone Star College Board of Trustees’ meeting. The agenda was to vote on whether Lone Star College (LSC) should schedule a $500 million bond election for May 11, 2013.

Surprisingly, in a meeting called to consider a matter that would require public support to succeed, the Board had made no provision on their agenda for public comment prior to making their decision.

Cornyn Urges Kerry to Approve Keystone XL Pipeline

Issues:

I joined a bipartisan group of Senators in pressing newly-confirmed Secretary of State John Kerry to approve the Keystone XL pipeline within the first quarter of the year. In a letter to the State Department, we called on Kerry and President Obama to provide the public and other stakeholders with a definitive process for approving the project by the end of March. The Keystone XL pipeline has been under review for almost four and half years. Read more about Cornyn Urges Kerry to Approve Keystone XL Pipeline

The Uphill Battle of Making Laws in Texas

Issues:

For 140 days every two years, lawmakers, their staffs, armies of lobbyists, activists, journalists, and others descend on the Texas Capitol for the regular session of the legislature.

The legislative issue we're watching closely is worker misclassification. The problem, sometimes called "payroll fraud", has been a real scourge in the construction industry.

Congressman Ted Poe Introduces Bill to Control Drone Use

Issues:

I recently introduced, along with Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), H.R. 637, the Preserving American Privacy Act. With an estimated 30,000 drones in U.S. skies by 2030, now is the time for Congress to act to set specific guidelines for when and for what purposes law enforcement agencies and private individuals can use drones. I introduced this bill after asking for input from our local law enforcement, legal scholars, civil rights and privacy groups at an event held at Rice University last October.
