Ashley Sewell Joins the Right on Crime Team

Issues:

AUSTIN – Ashley Sewell, formerly CEO of Carnivore Media, a boutique online image management firm, is bringing her talent to the Texas Public Policy Foundation and Right on Crime campaign. Ashley will continue working for smaller government, lower taxes, and increased personal responsibility both in Texas, as well as the rest of the nation.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be a part of such an influential and dynamic team,” Sewell said.

Sen. Carona Files Bill to Crack Down on Worker Misclassification

Issues:

After talking about it for months, Sen. John Carona filed a bill that he believes will help stop the problem of worker misclassification, also known as payroll fraud.

The bill could still be substituted and amended, but this is a framework for dealing with the problem that is said to be more in line with what the industry would like to see than the bill filed by State Rep. Joe Deshotel. This comes after a study from University of Texas researchers showed more than 40 percent of construction workers in the state are misclassified. Read more about Sen. True The Vote: Obama Campaign Targeted Citizens Trained To Prevent Voter Fraud In Ohio

Issues:

Millions of Americans were stunned after watching Hamilton County, Ohio voter and Organizing for America volunteer Melowese Richardson proudly admit to casting multiple ballots for President Barack Obama. Recently surfaced emails expose how Organizing for America worked to monitor and block any possibility of a citizen volunteer catching others like Ms. Richardson in the act.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, True the Vote shared emails between Obama staffers discussing targeting specific individuals they believed were associated with True the Vote in Hamilton County, Ohio. Official records

Attorney General Abbott, Sen. Seliger, Rep. Anderson Join Forces to Strengthen Texas Right-to-Work Laws

Issues:

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today joined Senator Kel Seliger and Representative Charles “Doc” Anderson to express support for legislation to help strengthen Texas’s right-to-work laws. Attorney General Abbott made the following statement about the proposed legislation:

“The State of Texas weathered the national economic downturn and became the nation’s job creator thanks to a reasonable regulatory environment that fostered job growth, economic opportunity and individual freedom – including the right to choose whether to join a labor union. Legislation proposed by Senator Seliger and Representative Anderson seeks to strengthen our State’s right-to-work protections by ensuring that workers are guaranteed

Creating the U.S. Constitution

Issues:

Written by Walter Coffey: In 1787, a convention was held to strengthen the Articles of Confederation that governed the new United States. However, the delegates instead seceded from the nation under the Articles and drafted what became the U.S. Constitution.

The new United States of America had been independent from Great Britain for just six years. The national laws were codified in the Articles of Confederation, which were created and executed by the Continental Congress. Read more about Creating the U.S. Constitution

Cornyn Responds to the President’s Call to Prevent His Sequester

I issued the following statement after President Obama addressed the need to avert the looming sequestration cuts, which he first proposed:

President Obama said "these cuts are not smart, these cuts are not fair, and they will hurt our economy," but what he neglected to say is that these cuts were his idea.

There is bipartisan agreement that the President's sequester is not a smart way to cut spending, and Republicans have repeatedly offered and passed solutions to achieve the same amount of deficit reduction in a more responsible way without tax hikes. The Minimum Wage Is Still a Bad Idea

Issues:

So the talk these days involves raising the minimum wage to $9. This is not supposed to have any effect on unemployment, even teen unemployment. Now it seems at least conceivable that some teens, who tend to have no experience, are not worth hiring at that wage. We are told not to worry about this. All other prices matter, but raising the cost of hiring a teenager by 24 percent won’t have any effect.

Prominent House public ed reform bill receives boost from Commissioner Tom Pauken

Issues:

I submitted written testimony today on Texas House Bill 5. The bill, authored by House Public Education Committee Chairman Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock of Killeen, is being discussed in committee this afternoon.

HB 5 replaces the STAAR test system with one that focuses on real learning and opportunities by: A) Reducing the number of required tests from 15 to five; B) Preserving accountability in our public education system by rating schools;

Stealing Second - What Happens to America After the Second Amendment is Gone

Issues:

As you know, I have written many posts on the current gun control debate raging like a California forest fire across our nation. Over the weekend, I received a post on my Facebook Page from Nicholas Antinozzi, author of an interesting book, Stealing Second about his views on this debate. I asked him if I could publish the message here. He agreed.

After reading his message I looked up his book online and purchased a copy to read this weekend. Here is what Amazon says about the book.
