On Wednesday, I chaired a hearing held by the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, U.S. Postal Service and the Census. During this hearing my colleagues and I examined and questioned agency officials on the collection and distribution of mail cover information by the United States Postal Service (USPS), as well as concerns related to the agency’s recent data breach of personal information of their employees. The recent Senate vote on Keystone was the Democrats' way of sticking to one of their own, Mary Landrieu. In a desperate move to save Mary Landrieu’s career and pull out what now appears an insurmountable lead by her opponent Bill Cassidy, Harry Reid scheduled a vote on the Keystone pipeline to give Mary Landrieu one last chance to show she has clout and maybe by a miracle save her Senate seat. Another deadline has come and gone and once again Iran wins. The United States and our allies are being played. Restarting the clock once again gives Iran the time it needs to make its nuclear ambitions a reality.

Another hugely successful season for Republicans is behind us, which gives us plenty of reasons to unite to accomplish even more. Unfortunately, a coordinated, professional smear machine is having none of it, and another faux Speaker’s race has begun.
The machine responsible for these Speaker “races” incites followers with half-truths, distortions and lies. The behavior of the incited is anything but civil. Supporters of Speaker Straus, including those who are not even elected officials, have been the subject of threats, intimidation and character assassination. We all were, if you are a Christian. Jesus paid the ransom for our sin with his own blood so that we could have eternal life. Pretty hefty price, if you ask me.
One could say that our delegation of Texas State Representatives have been bought with a price, too. Not one as noble as the price that Christ paid for our sins. What I'm talking about here is their vote for the Texas Speaker of the House, bought and paid for by current Speaker of the House, Joe Straus.
