Let's fund the first things first

Issues:

If a newly independent child asked his Mom or Dad for advice about how to handle his money, many parents might urge him to pay his core expenses first. Pay your rent and utility bills first, many parents would suggest, and then decide about how to spend (or save) the rest of your money.

It’s advice that state and county officials might do well to consider now that we are in budget season. Few Republicans would agree that the Texas state budget is too small, yet we hear calls for new taxes, fees, or use of Rainy Day Funds for transportation and water projects. The problem may not be that the budget is too small; the problem may be that our spending doesn’t line up with government’s core functions. Read more about Let's fund the first things first

Questioning Furloughs and Lack of Federal Agency Planning

Issues:

My grandmother always said, "Hope for the best, but plan for the worst." It is smart advice that federal agency heads should have followed in preparation for the sequester. Unfortunately, most didnt. Despite knowing since August 2011 that these cuts were a possibility, most agencies kept spending like their budgets would remain intact. That makes no sense.

Saul Alinsky And His Connection To San Antonio, Texas

Issues:

Being a Native San Antonian, I have to admit that I love my hometown, but maybe it is only the memory I love. Having attended Catholic schools from K thru 12th grade, I am very well aware of the importance the church places on giving to the poor. Missionary nuns from Belgium at St. John Berchman taught me during my elementary school years and the Sisters of Diving Providence taught at the high school where I attended.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz: Staff Sequester Starvation Diet

Issues:

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz claims that the sequester is so extreme that her staff members are not able to get a good meal.

Which begs the question…Since Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s staffers' salaries range from $60,000 – $160,000, how much do meals cost in Florida? The horror of the situation (staff being forced to eat like the average American), has prompted Twitchy to trend a #SaveThe Staffers hashtag! Congressman Sessions on The Path to Prosperity

This week, House Republicans passed our fiscal year 2014 budget plan, “The Path to Prosperity.” This responsible budget proposal lays out a vision for restoring our nation’s economic vitality through reforms that will balance the budget and cut spending by $4.6 trillion over the next ten years – all without raising taxes on hardworking families and small businesses. Our budget plan also fully repeals ObamaCare, simplifies our tax code, and strengthens our entitlement programs. Read more about Congressman Sessions on The Path to Prosperity

Congressman Poe: Sequester Pakistan, Not Our Troops

Issues:

I introduced H.R. 1253, the Sequester Pakistan Act, which will freeze all foreign aid to Pakistan until the Military Tuition Assistance Program of the Department of Defense is fully funded. This important program provides our troops the opportunity to obtain higher education that many could otherwise not afford.

The President is punishing the troops for the sake of politics.

Addendum to the Autopsy: Team for America

Issues:

Having finished reading the “Growth and Opportunity Project” report from a blue ribbon panel appointed by Chairman Reince Priebus, it reported seven different areas for improvement in the next campaign cycle. Each area described will likely have appeal to some people. To find your niche to help out, please read the entire report—it’s not that long—located at: growthopp.gop.com/default.aspx and many other sites.

However, I propose an eighth area of improvement. Let me call this the Team for America approach.

Congressman Neugebauer Votes to Balance Budget and Increase Opportunities for West Texans

Issues:

I voted to pass the House Republican budget, The Path to Prosperity, developed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. This legislation will reduce spending by $4.6 trillion and balances the federal budget in ten years.

This budget not only reins in government spending, but it does so while strengthening our safety net and kick-starting the economy. It simplifies the tax code, preserves Medicare for current seniors, reforms it for future generations, and repeals Obamacare. Texas Teacher Wears "Vote Obama" Shirt at Lumberton ISD - Vulgar, Anti-Christian/GOP/Fox News Pics on Twitter – Uses CSCOPE

Issues:

This woman is not the teacher, this is one of the pictures posted on the teacher's Twitter pageDuring the November 2012 election, several students claim that Lumberton High School teacher Michelle Champagne paraded around the high school wearing a shirt with a picture of Barack Obama and "Vote Obama" written above the picture. This Texas teacher also has vulgar, anti-Christian, anti-Republican, anti-Fox News, anti-Rick Perry messages and pictures posted openly on her Twitter page and says her fellow Lumberton residents “cling to guns and Bibles.” One tweet on her Twitter page
